Spot truckload rates for van, refrigerated, and flatbed freight set new records in January as capacity remained tight due to shipper demand and fallout from the electronic logging device (ELD) mandate, according to load board operator DAT Solutions.
The national average spot van rate was $2.26 per mile in January, up 15 cents compared to December and 59 cents higher than January 2017, to set an all-time record. January’s spot rate also exceeded the average contract rate by 14 cents, meaning that truckload carriers were paid more for one-time loads from freight brokers than for longer-term contracts negotiated directly with shippers, according to DAT.

Are you looking for a competitive quote on Trucking Liability insurance? You have come to the right place:
DOT Insurance | Insurance for all your transportation needs Truck Insurance is one of the insurance plans that require specialized coverage. You may need certain state filings, and have special liability limit requirements. You cannot trust your truck insurance to a NON-expert broker – you need a professional!
ELD Implementation will decrease supply of trucks by 15% (since many companies are already using ELD) This will drive freight costs up, and will entice more people to enter the trucking industry increasing the number of trucks on the road. Initially freight prices will increase and maintain higher level for about 2 years, then as more trucks enter the industry the prices will begin to decrease. I anticipate that within 2 years of this mandate there will be 20% more trucks on the road. This mandate will create strong demand for trucks in the used market, since fleets will be holding on to their trucks longer to take advantage of the higher freight costs. Recruiting Drivers will be even more challenging and driver compensation will need to increase.
Ever wonder how the busses get insured ?
I always enjoy a picture of a great tractor you could definitely see the owner takes good care of it. This means fewer stops of the DOT which results in the great safety record.
