Legendary ESPN announcer Dick Vitale celebrates his cancer victory

📣 🙌 🏀 Legendary ESPN basketball announcer Dick Vitale rang his victory bell yesterday and left behind an inspirational rock in the fountain at Sarasota Memorial’s oncology tower garden to inspire others during their cancer journey.

In October 2021, Vitale was diagnosed with lymphoma and underwent 6 rounds of chemotherapy. His lymphoma diagnosis came just months after he completed treatment for melanoma, and while undergoing vocal cord surgery to treat dysplasia. He completed his treatment on Thursday and celebrated the news that a recent PET scan showed no signs of the lymphoma.

“At 82, despite all of the treatments, traveling and medical challenges, he has done phenomenally well,” said Dr. Richard Brown, medical director of the Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute at Sarasota Memorial. “Dick's cancer is in remission and we are excited to see him return to the life he loves.” Vitale said he feels blessed to have a great team of medical experts along with wonderful family support.👏❤️👏
