I must admit, I was a little apprehensive about getting such extensive work performed. I had missing teeth, others loose in need of replacement and/or repair. Dr. Mike is a hoot, excellent, professional with a great bedside manner (not sure if that's an appropriate term, but we'll go with it). The staff are very friendly and "Happy". His assistant Abby made me feel very comfortable and at ease. She is an angel in disguise. I was there for the better part of the day, 3 extractions, one crown, partial graft and 2 temporary bridges later I walked out with a smile. It was a rewarding and painless experience, I highly recommend....I mean really, who couldn't love a smile like this....thanks Dr. Mike and staff, especially you Abby..
Just FYI-Susan Brill Basile is posting that you are to be recommended to people seeking LAX masking requirements for patients. If that IS your choice, so be it. If not, I wanted to provide you the opportunity to correct her public statement. https://m.facebook.com/groups/SarasotaWOM/permalink/1949122065257313/
Another emergency when the staff was there for me. Kind and caring treatment. And they were even comforting to my service dog who was worried about me. Simply the best! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Great dentists. Great staff. These folks touch all the bases to ensure a wonderful experience for all of their patients.
Had somewhat of emergency, Michelle assisted in getting me in the next day, saw Shane Eckels, ,DMD, assisted by Jill , and received thoughtful and helpful feedback. My first visit ! Thank you all very much.

Stages of Tooth Development

Did you know that the formation of your teeth begins during the eighth week in utero? Though the teeth don’t erupt until about six months of age, the cells are continually evolving. The five stages of tooth development include the bud stage, cap stage, bell stage, crown and root formation, and the eruption stage. This process repeats itself to develop the permanent teeth. In some cases, teeth don’t properly develop, resulting in missing teeth, excess teeth, or misshapen teeth.

The Importance of Dental X-Rays

When you have an oral health issue, dental x-rays or radiographs are essential. A visual examination may provide some answers, but radiographs detect decay and diseases that aren’t visible to the eye. Patients also have dental x-rays taken during their six-month dental check-ups (or at least they should). These can help dentists spot problems like decay between teeth or beneath fillings, cysts, and bone loss before they become a more serious issue.

Reasons for Gum Recession

Receding gums create a gap between the tooth and gums. This gap can fill with harmful bacteria that lead to gingivitis, periodontal disease, and tooth loss. Receding gums are a consequence of aggressive brushing, poor oral hygiene, smoking, diabetes, vitamin C deficiency, or teeth grinding. When paired with a routine in-office dental cleaning two to four times per year, consistent brushing and flossing the teeth can reduce the risk of gum recession.

Tips to Prepare Your Child for the Dentist

Parents are encouraged to take their children to the dentist when their first tooth emerges. A first dental visit can be an anxiety-inducing experience for young children. Before stepping into the office, parents can educate their children on what it's like to be at the dentist's office via watching TV shows, role-play, or telling positive stories. If your child requires extra encouragement, remind them of a positive reward that they can receive after a successful dental visit.

Is root canal therapy painful?

A common myth circulating is that root canals are painful, but that's not necessarily true in typical scenarios. Before root canal therapy, dentists supply local anesthesia, so patients shouldn't feel anything. However, discomfort after root canal treatment is possible. As the body heals, it's normal to feel mild to moderate tenderness around the area. Some people report sore jaws from opening their mouths. In reality, dentists want to relieve discomfort from inner dental decay or infection, not cause more pain.

Are store-bought whitening treatments safe?

Over-the-counter whitening treatments are convenient and affordable, but are they safe? There are risk factors associated with using store-bought teeth whitening treatments. For example, overusing the product or using it improperly can cause damage to your dental enamel and gum tissue. Professional whitening treatments are much safer because they are applied by a dental professional who uses safe and effective treatment methods. Plus, in-office whitening offers immediate results!

Why wear a mouthguard while playing sports?

Should you (or your child) wear a mouthguard while playing sports? We think it’s a good idea! A custom-fitted mouthguard protects the teeth, gums, jaw, and lips from dangerous blows to the face. This could save you or your child from enduring lots of time-consuming and costly dental work. Mouthguards are especially important for people with braces to avoid damage to the brackets and wires and painful injuries of the gum and cheeks.
