🎓👏 Congratulations, CPE Class of 2026! 👏🎓

The Santa Rosa Police Department is proud to celebrate the 27 graduates of our 2026 Community Police Experience (CPE)!

Over the course of several weeks, these community members went behind the badge, gaining a firsthand look at the work, training, and responsibilities of SRPD personnel. CPE is designed to strengthen relationships and build understanding by giving participants a real-world perspective on modern policing.

🔍 During the program, graduates:

-Learned about crime prevention, investigations, and the criminal justice system
-Explored patrol operations, policies, and neighborhood policing strategies
-Participated in hands-on experiences with defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operations, and fi****ms safety
-Gained insight into specialized units like the Hostage Negotiation Team and narcotics operations
-Observed demonstrations and training exercises similar to those completed by our officers

Through engaging discussions, demonstrations, and practical exercises, these graduates built a deeper understanding of policing and the critical role community partnerships play in keeping Santa Rosa safe.

💬 Our hope is that each graduate leaves not only informed but inspired to share their experience and continue building bridges between law enforcement and the community.

👏 Please join us in congratulating the 2026 SRPD Community Police Experience graduates on this accomplishment and for their commitment to learning, engagement, and public safety!

Today we recognize and celebrate the incredible careers of two dedicated public servants, Administrative Technician Carrie Behler and Sergeant Terry White, as they begin their well-earned retirements.

👋 Congratulations, Carrie Behler!
Carrie retired after nearly 30 years of service with SRPD, beginning her career in May 1996. Over the years, she served under 10 Chiefs of Police and became a trusted and steady presence within the department.

From her promotion to Administrative Secretary to her most recent role as Administrative Technician handling Public Records Act requests, Carrie’s professionalism and commitment made a lasting impact. She was also a member of SRPD’s first Tactical Support Team and dedicated nearly 20 years to Peer Support, helping care for her colleagues behind the scenes.

Carrie, thank you for your decades of service, compassion, and dedication to SRPD and our community. 💙

👮‍♂️ Congratulations, Sergeant Terry White!
Sergeant White retires following an outstanding career in law enforcement that began with 6 years in the United States Marine Corps (2 active duty, 4 reserve). He joined the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office in April 1995, where he served in a wide range of assignments: patrol, Sonoma Valley Substation, narcotics, K9, SWAT, Field Training Officer, Fi****ms Instructor, and as an alternate Tactical Flight Officer on Henry 1.

In 2016, he brought his experience to SRPD, continuing his service as a patrol officer, PCI detective, Fi****ms Instructor, and Hostage Negotiations Team (HNT) member before his promotion to sergeant. As a sergeant, Terry worked as a patrol sergeant, HNT Sergeant, K9 Sergeant, and as our first-ever Special Enforcement Team (SET) Sergeant.

Terry put it best: “Had every fun job in law enforcement.”

Sergeant White, thank you for your leadership, versatility, and decades of service to our profession and community.

👏 Please join us in thanking Carrie and Terry for their remarkable careers and wishing them both the very best in retirement!

Today, we recognize and celebrate the incredible careers of two dedicated public servants, Administrative Technician Carrie Behler and Sergeant Terry White, as they begin their well-earned retirements.

Santa Rosa Police Department Launches Healthy Room Project to Support Local Youth and Families

The Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) proudly completed its first Healthy Room Project renovation on June 4, 2026, marking the launch of a new community engagement initiative to support vulnerable children and strengthen relationships with local families.

Working in partnership with the Healthy Room Project, SRPD volunteers generously contributed their time, hands-on labor, and “sweat equity” to transform a living space for a local family in need. The effort resulted in a safe, comfortable, and personalized bedroom for a 14-year-old girl facing significant challenges, including overcrowded housing and recent trauma. The second bedroom and living room were also transformed to create functional, welcoming spaces that better support the entire family’s daily needs. In a household of six sharing a two-bedroom apartment, these newly redesigned rooms provide much-needed space that fosters stability, dignity, and overall well-being.

The Healthy Room Project partners with community organizations and law enforcement agencies to convert unsafe or inadequate spaces into functional and supportive bedrooms for at-risk youth. Each room renovation includes essential furnishings such as a bed, dresser, and study space, creating an environment where children can rest, focus, and thrive.

“This effort reflects our commitment to serving Santa Rosa beyond traditional law enforcement,” Chief John Cregan said in a statement. “By investing directly in the well-being of our community’s youth, we are helping build stronger connections and brighter futures. We’re proud to give kids not just a room, but a sense of stability and hope.”

The initiative was introduced to SRPD in late 2025 following its success in other communities, inspiring local adoption to better serve families in Santa Rosa. These completed rooms represent the first of what the department intends to be an ongoing series of projects.

The Healthy Room Project is a tangible example of community policing in action: building trust and supporting families outside of emergency situations. By meeting residents where they are and addressing real-life needs, the department aims to foster meaningful, lasting relationships.

The department also recognized community partners who contributed to the success of the project, including local organizations and businesses that provided donations and support to bring the vision to life. We wish to extend our sincerest gratitude to Santa Rosa Best Buy, Chick-fil-A, Save Mart Corp., and Super Clean Carpets for their contributions, as well as the Sonoma County Alliance “Take Back our Community” fund for their generous donation of an iPad.

SRPD encourages community members to learn more about the Healthy Room Project and to participate by submitting nominations for future room renovations through the department’s website at www.srcity.org/police. The department remains committed to expanding this initiative and continuing to invest in Santa Rosa’s youth, one room at a time.

Joint Statement from Chief John Cregan and Jennielynn Holmes, CEO of Catholic Charities of Northwest California

The Santa Rosa Police Department and Catholic Charities of Northwest California are jointly alerting the community to a troubling and growing trend involving immigration services scams that are now impacting individuals locally. Across the country, and increasingly within our own community, criminals are posing as Catholic Charities employees, using emails, social media, counterfeit identification badges, and even in-person meetings to falsely promise immigration legal services in exchange for large fees. These individuals are not authorized to provide legal assistance and are exploiting trust in a respected organization to victimize vulnerable members of our community.

Catholic Charities USA and its affiliates have reported that scammers commonly initiate unsolicited contact through email, text, or social media, requesting personal information or payment to “enroll” individuals in non-existent immigration programs. These scams often involve promises of guaranteed results, expedited cases, or special access to immigration benefits; claims that legitimate service providers cannot and do not make. In many cases, victims are pressured to send money through digital payment platforms or to provide sensitive identifying information, only to have the scammers disappear without delivering any services.

Chief John Cregan emphasized the Department’s commitment to addressing this criminal behavior:

“The Santa Rosa Police Department takes these crimes very seriously. Individuals who prey on members of our community, particularly those seeking lawful immigration assistance, will be investigated thoroughly and held accountable. This type of fraud will not be tolerated. We are committed to working closely with our community partners to stop these scams and protect the public.”

Jennielynn Holmes, CEO of Catholic Charities of Northwest California, underscored the organization’s concern and ongoing outreach efforts:

“Catholic Charities has a long-standing mission of serving vulnerable members of our community with integrity and compassion. It is deeply concerning that individuals are misusing our name and impersonating our staff to take advantage of families and individuals seeking help. We encourage anyone seeking immigration assistance to contact us directly through our official channels to verify services and ensure they are working with legitimate, accredited providers.”

Both agencies stressed the strength of their partnership in addressing this issue through education, prevention, and enforcement. Joint efforts are focused on increasing awareness of common warning signs, supporting victims, and holding those responsible accountable.

Community members are urged to be cautious and watch for the following red flags:

1. Unsolicited contact offering immigration services or legal assistance
2. Requests for payment upfront, especially through apps like Zelle or wire transfers
3. Guarantees of visas, green cards, or other immigration outcomes
4. Requests for sensitive personal information via text, email, WhatsApp, or social media
5. Requests to sign blank immigration forms or documents you do not fully understand
6. Individuals presenting unofficial or suspicious identification or credentials

It is important to know that Catholic Charities does not initiate services through social media messages and encourages community members to verify any outreach directly with their offices. Legitimate immigration service providers will also be transparent about credentials, processes, and fees, and will never guarantee a specific immigration outcome.

We also recognize that members of the immigrant community may feel hesitant to report being victimized, out of concern for their immigration status. The Santa Rosa Police Department wants to make this clear: SRPD does not ask about immigration status, does not report immigration status to the federal government, and does not participate in civil immigration enforcement. A person’s immigration status has no bearing on our investigation of a crime. Our priority is protecting victims and holding criminals accountable. Additionally, reporting these incidents helps protect others in our community.

Anyone who believes they have been targeted by an immigration services scam, or who may have already been a victim, is strongly encouraged to report the incident to the Santa Rosa Police Department at 707-528-5222. By reporting these crimes, you not only help protect yourself but also prevent others in the community from becoming victims.

Together, the Santa Rosa Police Department and Catholic Charities of Northwest California remain committed to safeguarding our community through awareness, trust, and coordinated action.
