Everyone needs to read this! đđť
I walked over to the White House today to join the other protesters. A line of police were protecting the park. Nothing happened that was violent or chaotic. People chanted âBlack lives matterâ and âNo justice, no peace;â the police remained silent standing in their positions.
I kept wondering what each of them was really thinking as they stood there. Probably a lot of things. We could see the White House in the background and we knew the president was tweeting about us. How surreal, how tragic, how painful and yet how hopeful this moment is. A sleeping giant has awakened. Lady Liberty cries out, âEnough is enough!â
This is a societal earthquake, and no one knows yet how the landscape will look when itâs all over. The people are crying out for justice, and the cries are real. A crisis triggers underlying issues and is a response to accumulated layers of trauma. Itâs not just about Floyd, but about a string of similar deaths that went before his. Itâs not just about race, but about economic and social injustice in general. About health care and food and education and college loans and criminal injustice and more. Itâs not just about Trump, but about a political class that has acted for years as though it doesnât really give a damn.
What is happening in America now was completely predictable to anyone who had the eyes to see. None of this came from out of the blue. For decades, our politicians created an endless string of pleasures for the few and miseries for the many that could not go on forever. And now, for better or for worse, this country will never be the same.
This rebellion cannot be suppressed, it must be accommodated. It cannot be squelched, it must be dealt with. It cannot just be âheard,â it must be responded to. Only fundamental change in a just direction will do. If anyone doesnât understand, read Yertle the Turtle. You will.
Itâs not up to us what we learn, but only whether we learn through joy or through pain. Such is the choice that American makes now.

The Perils Of Deferred Maintenance - Helen Sharritt Interiors Often times I hear my clients tell me that there are added benefits to working with me, besides fantastic design and service. Over the years, I have seen this happen time and time again, it's almost a universal problem over time, and I realize that I need to address it in a blog post. That is that good design and clutter cannot co-exist! In general a design project looks itâs very best, upon completion. Now I am sure most everyone is saying âduhâ. [ 246 more words ]

Located in Santa Rosa, I am extending half-price design services to those affected by the recent fires in Sonoma County. Coming very close to losing my own home in the Tubbs fire that ripped through Sonoma County, and being evacuated for a week, I have been thinking how best I can serve my community in the long recovery that is before us.
