This was the smile on my face as I prepared to show up as an advocate for my community and teach future and current doctors about the importance of Indigenous healing practices, how to honor the wisdom of indigenous science, knowing the history of the land we live upon, and approaching Native patients with cultural humility and culturally responsive care.

It was beautiful to get comments from the audience of indigenous folks in the audience feeling heard and understood for the medicine of their people. And from non-Native folks about how they will now think differently about how they work with their Native patients!

My prayer was that this talk could move us another step forward to balance in medicine. Pinagigiwi ancestors and elders for teachings and guidance! Aho!

Happy Indigenous Peoples day
Every day, everywhere around the globe is always indigenous peoples day
Because every day we are to be in good relation to our mother, ourselves, and all our relations
And every day is a good day to be indigenous
Even tho some days are hard as s**t to be indigenous
Especially the days they tell the history wrong, especially as they are writing the history of today
We will write this history for our future generations
So they can walk in the medicine of our ancestors and of themselves
