Straight forward, no nonsense, fast and fair. Found my problem right off the bat for no charge. I'll be going back from now on.
Hey Steven, hope your doing well ! A question..I would like to upgrade my cpu and gpu. Being an avid gamer, and not wanting to invest in a new PC right now as i only have two games that are struggling. The latest "Call Of Duty" and "Planet Coaster".

I currently have a GTX 650 which is ok for most games up to 2015, but now i see it struggling and Planet Coaster is CPU driven quite painfully. I have stripped all services from running that are not required to assist.

What if possible would be a far faster CPU that will work in this mother board and i am looking at the GTX 1080 series if it will fit!

Can you write back with a cost? I know the GTX 1080 is costly, but i can transfer to a new Pc when ready for that step !

Thanks Steve !

Think it's easy being a Computer Guru? Think Again:

TO: Mary Lou and Mike Hasegawa

FROM: The Computer Guru of Santa Fe

RE: Your Visit to The Computer Guru

To recap our recent business encounter, for the record:

Mary Lou Hasegawa brought in Mike Hasegawa's old, dead computer. I performed testing and diagnostics and determined that multiple component failures had occurred. I also determined that it would be unwise to spend money upgrading this older machine. Mary Lou wisely selected my best-selling and very capable Intel Mini i7 for a replacement.

At no cost to you, I transferred the data from Mike’s existing machine to the Mini and readied it for use. Mary Lou took the system home to Mike…

…who proceeded, allegedly, to have various issues with the machine, none of which (upon later testing) had anything to do with the machine, which was and is perfect.

For example, there was a defective video monitor involved, which was not sourced from The Computer Guru, and wiring/internet problems which apparently have still not been fully-investigated or resolved.

In response to Mike’s unhappiness with the Mini, and after reviewing Mike’s complaints, I took it back for full store credit and prepared a modestly-priced Intel i5-based “tower computer” for his use. Mary Lou agreed to keep the Intel i7-based mini for herself.

After receiving the i5-based “tower computer,” Mike once again was unhappy with the system, and issued a list of specifications he believed he required, some of which made no sense or were contradictory or unnecessary, and the sum total of which would have been very impractical to achieve with the i5-based tower, in any case.

So, once again, I took this unit back for store credit, discussed Mike’s “perceived needs” with Mary Lou, and recommended a custom-built i9-based tower which was sufficiently capable and powerful that it would run beautifully for many years without upgrades, and also, hopefully, would give Mike very little to complain about, this third-time around.

Mary Lou accepted my proposal and paid in full for the i9-based custom tower for Mike, having been fully-briefed previously on the fact that I do not provide refunds, only store credit, for returned systems — especially for defect-free returned systems, as both systems provided to Mike thus far had been. I began the lengthy and complex process of transferring Mike’s data — for the third time, now — onto a new hard drive destined for inclusion in Mike’s “third” new system.

Hours after purchasing the Intel i9 custom-built tower for her husband, Mary Lou sent me the classic “Buyer’s Remorse” message, saying that her husband did not want the i9 tower, and that I should immediately stop work on the system. Too bad for me, since I had already ordered, and paid for, many of the components, and now have them here in my shop, unneeded and unused.

That made THREE SEPARATE SYSTEMS refused/rejected by Mike.

But that wasn’t the end of it, because there was, meantime, another circus sideshow running.

Mary Lou, you may recall, decided to keep Mike’s “first” rejected system, the Intel Mini, for herself. So once again, I began the process of transferring data from an older computer onto this one.

Mary Lou took the Intel Mini home, and — deja vu — started having problems with it — again, problems having nothing to do with the system itself, which has been thoroughly tested, several times by now, and found to be absolutely defect-free.

Rather, these were internet connectivity problems having to do with inferior and problematic internet service and equipment at the Hasegawa household.

So, taking a page out of her husband’s playbook, Mary Lou RETURNED the Intel Mini (I kid you not) and swapped it for an AMD-based Mini, an inferior machine, which she believed would not exhibit the problems she experienced with the defect-free Intel Mini.

To recap, that is now FOUR SEPARATE INSTANCES of returned/rejected machines — none of which had even the slightest functional defect — and all of which required tedious, time-consuming data transfers, for which I received zero compensation, or even thanks.

So, yet again, I began transferring the data from the Intel Mini (which had already been transferred from Mary Lou’s old computer) to the NEW AMD Mini…

…until I received Mary Lou’s “Buyer’s Remorse” note (posted below), cancelling her non-refundable purchase of the custom-built i9 tower for her husband, at which point I pulled the plug on the whole ridiculous, time-wasting enterprise.

Sincerely,

Steven Salemi

The experience of buying something from a real person, in real-time, sometimes the person who curated the items in the store or even made them is an exchange as old as time.

Seeing and conversing with who you are doing business with creates a bond that goes beyond the purchase. It builds community. It creates goodwill, trust, accountability and a relationship that can last a lifetime.

Gifting someone something you searched for in person is special. There is nothing more satisfying than finding that one of a kind present, wrapping it up, and giving it away.
