In 2000 when Fran returned from her cross-country bike journey, she founded Powerstories Theatre. It started with a simple question “do you have a story to tell?” Twenty years later and hundreds of true story productions later, we are celebrating our unexpected downtime without our theatre and our 20th anniversary with a reach back to our roots by asking the same question. “Do you have a story to tell?”

During our time sequestered, let’s safely put the social back in isolation. We invite everyone -– every gender, every age - to share his true story during this unprecedented time.

Is it a perfect sunset? Your grandson’s giggle? The yoga class you escape to after work? A song that recalls a special memory? A black and white wedding photo, yellowing with age? The A on your last report card? The doctor telling you your cancer is in remission? Someone using the correct pronoun? A coloring page in your adult coloring book? Your toddler dancing to her favorite song? A handmade item or a costume for a comic book convention? The pink paw pads of a kitten or kisses from your dog? A Bob Ross painting you completed to perfection? The best finger-licking BBQ? A special friendship you formed? Is it a quiet time in the morning before the world wakes up?

What story brings a smile to your face and joy to heart during this difficult time? Tell us or show us your true story.

************

Since we are helping others by sharing our stories during this unusual time, we want to help periodically with $100 random drawings and other prizes for our storytellers.

Visit https://bit.ly/3dejPhU to complete our form and upload your true story.

In the coming weeks, follow our social media to learn what brings joy to you and your virtual neighbor across our city, our country, and our world.

Shakespeare & Company

Writing in the time of quarantine. The Plague forced theatres to close in 1606. This allowed Shakespeare time to focus on dramatic writing and he wrote some of his most famous plays. According to Scholar James Shapiro, Shakespeare "churned out King Lear, Macbeth, and Antony and Cleopatra that year."

Make art!

"Oh, Jesus, I have to stop you right now. I love you dearly: You're a smart and sweet man, but you are so wrong about what matters and where the eyes should visit. The things you find so important--the attention, the prizes, the approval--yes, they matter, and never so much than when they disappear. But I'm old now, and I've walked a long and rocky road, and what really mattered, what should matter most to you, is the rare and gorgeous experience of reaching out through your work and your actions and connecting to others. A message in the bottle thrown toward another frightened, loveless q***r; a confused mother; a recently dejected man who can't see his way home. We get people home; we let them know that we're here for them. This is what art can do. Art should be the arm and the shoulder and the kind eyes--all of which let others know you deserve to live and to be loved. That is what matters, baby. Bringing people home."-- Tennessee Williams to James Grissom in 1982 #FolliesOfGod
