Books By Mail - New Mexico State Library

New Mexico State Library-Books By Mail Rural Services The New Mexico State Library Books by Mail (BBM) Program began in 1975. Books-by-Mail is a book delivery service offered to rural residents of New Mexico who do not live near a State Library Rural Bookmobile stop or a public library.

The service is also available to New Mexico residents who are homebound because of a physical disability and unable to visit a local library or who can only read large print books due to a visual disability. This program is funded with a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services which administers the Library Services and Technology Act.

New Mexico State Library, Rural Bookmobile East

Rural Bookmobile East is excited to let you all know that we are coming out to see you beginning Wednesday, September 16th. There have been several changes to our schedule and we are only providing limited services at this time. We have had to eliminate some stops due to this being a “day run” schedule only. It is very important that we adhere to social distancing guidelines and masks will be required when coming to the bookmobile.
• All stops will only be 30-45 minutes
• No one is allowed on the bookmobile at this time
• This will be a pick up stop only for this time for you to drop off materials you already have checked out. Please bring a list of books you would like us to take out to you in October. You may also utilize our online catalog to place holds. If you need assistance with this, please feel free to contact us.
• Masks will be required at all times and 6ft social distancing is required
• Please DO NOT come to the bookmobile if you are sick in anyway
• One person at a time will be allowed to come to the table that is setup outside the bookmobile – you will pick up your books and drop off any returns you may have for us. RETURNS – All returns must be placed in a bag for pickup.
• For those of you who have not yet submitted your census survey we will have a laptop setup and John and Zach will assist in helping you submit your census information – PLEASE PLEASE complete your census - It is the basis for distributing seats in the House of Representatives and in various state legislatures. It is also used to determine the distribution of nearly $900 billion for federally funded programs, which are apportioned based on an area's population, income, age, and other factors. It’s also what funds the bookmobiles!!
• We will be taking requests via phone (575-461-1206) and email ([email protected]) – because we are so pressed for time, this first time out will only be a pickup stop. Moving forward you will need to provide your request list two weeks prior to us coming out to your stop again.
• Schools – we will NOT be stopping at any schools at this time but you are welcome to come to another stop in your area. If you would like books, we can provide a “basket” of books for your students – these books will be checked out to one teacher and you will be responsible for the return of all these books (I would suggest you keep all East Bookmobile books in your classroom)
• If a route is delayed or cancelled due to weather or safety concerns, we will notify you as soon as possible via an email, phone call or Facebook
• For those stops we are unable to get to, we are happy to assist with eBooks and books by mail – please reach out to me for assistance

JVI  A Christmas carol
Dickens, Charles BB-2639
An unabridged edition of the holiday classic for young people finds the miserly Ebeneezer Scrooge making up for his heartless ways after three ghosts invite him to witness important Christmases of his life. For ages 7-9.

JVY  David Copperfield
Dickens, Charles BB-2489
classic tale of an orphan growing up in the 1800's of England. | Often considered the author's best novel, this is the largely autobiographical story of a young man's rise from poverty with many famous characters along the way.

JVY  Nicholas Nickleby
Dickens, Charles BB-2490
The most gorgeously theatrical of all Dickens's novels, Nicholas Nickleby mingles the somber world of Oliver Twist with the sunlit spectacle of the Pickwick papers. In a delightful series of adventures, Nicholas, the hearty young hero, takes us on a journey through nineteenth-century England accompanied by some of Dickens's best swaggering scoundrels and most unforgettable eccentrics.

LIT  A tale of two cities
Dickens, Charles BB-1735

The two cities, a lethal, vengeful Paris during the French Revolution and a leafy, tranquil London, are only one of the novel's stark dichotomies, which are continued as Syndey Carton and Charles Darnay are drawn toward their separate destinies, their lives touched by the same woman.

LARGE PRINT. The two cities, a lethal, vengeful Paris during the French Revolution and a leafy, tranquil London, are only one of the novel's stark dichotomies, which are continued as Syndey Carton and Charles Darnay are drawn toward their separate destinies, their lives touched by the same woman.

LIT  Great expectations
Dickens, Charles BB-0876
A poor boy is helped by an unknown patron and is informed that he will be reared as a gentleman of "great expectations."

LIT  Hard times for these times
Dickens, Charles BB-0877
Murdering the innocent! Facts, teach these children facts, not fancies. Sense, not sentimentality. Conformity, not curiosity. Proof and demonstration, not poetry and drama. On this bleak tenet is run the model day school in hard times.

LIT  Little Dorrit
Dickens, Charles BB-2824
Marshalsea Prison is a grim castle of debt on the Thames's southern shore. Thousands have passed through its portals: some to escape soon after; many to die in despair. Only old Dorrit can actually be happy here. As generations of bankrupts come and go he lives contented, free from the responsibilities of the world. Born and bred in the Marshalsea, Little Dorrit is her father's constant helpmate and a prisoner to devotion. A grown-up little girl, with never a thought for herself, she has no expectation of anything from anyone. As the girl becomes a woman this can not go on. But in the eyes of the man she loves she is only a dutiful daughter. How can he be so blind?

LIT  Oliver Twist
Dickens, Charles BB-0875
In nineteenth-century England, a young orphan boy lives in the squalid surroundings of a workhouse until he becomes involved with a gang of thieves.

LIT  The Pickwick papers
Dickens, Charles BB-2725
The Pickwick Club was founded to make a scientific tour of the world, but just as the members begin their journey, con artist Alfred Jingle, sets them up and their mis-adventures take them around England and put them in contact with a cast of colorful and comical characters.
