Timothy McCall: The Good Doctor
This is a truly inspiring story. I like to think that letters after names shouldn't define who you are or how influential what you say is but...that is naive. I love it when doctors love yoga, it makes me feel accepted and justified on some level. I guess we all still need reassurance. Oh yeah, he is a tennis player too. http://yogainternational.com/article/view/timothy-mccall-the-good-doctor
Timothy McCall: The Good Doctor In 2002, Timothy McCall set out for India to research the medical benefits of yoga. He wanted to know what evidence existed to suggest that yoga could heal chronic and acute diseases. And if it could, how?

John Cleese on Creativity
Amazing and funny talk on creativity. Love John Cleese
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AU5x1Ea7NjQ#t=2154
It seems like in our current age and presiding cultural striving towards self-improvement, better everything, more stuff, increased happiness, and living healthier that the only thing we really to get better at is self-acceptance. "Get better at" there I go. This includes acceptance of destructive tendencies and our denial. That ugly stuff that we don't want to have like some kind of conception that we need to "get better at" something. Once we have self-acceptance everything else happens naturally and organically. Beware the class, program, person or organization that says they have the answers. It is a life long process and it's not easy. Discovering how to cultivate self-acceptance and self-awareness, that is the key. I know I am coming into some answers for myself now. What are yours?

There is now an Ashtanga based mysore style self-practice class in Santa Fe led by bodybreathyoga.com (Joe, Me). It is Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 630-8am and Sundays from 5-630pm at the Santa Fe Community Yoga Center. If you have ever wanted to learn Ashtanga Yoga or work on your self-practice please join us. I could go through the reasons I like Ashtanga (it is disciplined but not rigid, it is structured but not repetitive, it is difficult but so is life and it teaches us to work through it etc...) but many have said it before. Here are some links to get you inspired and get you going:

Yoga for Beginners: 5 Things Every Newbie Should Know.
This is a good article for beginners. I would add to "Namaste" and "Om" that you if don't have to make the sounds or chants if you don't feel like it. I would also add 7) Come with Beginners Mind. Expect some pain and expect some pain you're not used too. I came to yoga from Soccer, Rugby, Skiing and Track. I hadn't really stretched deeply or like that...ever. But if you stay with the breath it get's easier. Try not to get down on yourself for not being good (especially hard for regular competitive athletes) or for not being able to not let go of this "not being good" at it attitude. It will all come into place if you practice. http://www.elephantjournal.com/2013/10/yoga-for-beginners-5-things-every-newbie-should-know/
Yoga for Beginners: 5 Things Every Newbie Should Know. The only thing that should matter to yogis is the present moment. Keeping yourself in the present moment is believed to keep you in reality, as opposed to reflecting on past events which are no longer occurring, or projecting future events which have not yet occurred.

Rock Stars and Groupies: Narcissistic Co-Dependence in the Yoga Teacher-Student Relationship
This is also a very good one we need to all be aware of as teachers and students (of any kind). Ego, co-dependence, insecurity, narcissism, transference, idolatry, and counter-transference. All of these take us away from a true spiritual path and give yoga a bad name. Let's stop this hurtful behavior. http://yoganonymous.com/rock-stars-and-groupies-narcissistic-co-dependence-in-the-yoga-teacher-student-relationship/
Rock Stars and Groupies: Narcissistic Co-Dependence in the Yoga Teacher-Student Relationship There’s been a lot of talk about s*x and ethics in the yoga teacher-student relationship lately, and with good reason. If we focus too heavily on s*x, however, we tend to overlook the fact that there are often important psycho-emotional issues at play...

7 Tips to Develop a Daily Practice for Growth, Healing, and Happiness
As I embark on this next phase of my teaching I am studying my self-practice closely as well as reading a lot about yoga, teaching and other topics. Here is a great article for folks to start off with if they have never had a self-practice http://tinybuddha.com/blog/7-tips-to-develop-a-daily-practice-for-growth-healing-and-happiness/

Letting Life Come to You
"As an athlete, I could see the profoundly positive benefits yoga had for my body, my mind, and my abilities. I couldn’t believe everyone wasn’t doing this, particularly men and especially athletes." we couldn't agree more.

Letting Life Come to You by Kent Katich As a high-school basketball player growing up in Iowa, I dreamed of going to UCLA, the mecca for college basketball where championship banners hang in the rafters and (unlike Iowa) the very temperature is always 72 degrees. But UCLA wasn’t calling, so after graduation, I ...
