Kendall the kitten will never be in want of entertainment! We envision her as the star of many puppet shows and home theater productions - with a lot of kitty costumes. Coincidentally, Kendall was adopted from our event at Violet Crown Santa Fe movie theater 😂

Lady, the love of everyone at our shelter, finally found her forever. This sweet-as-pie gal has helped other dogs feel more at home in our care, and she’s been the first that new shelter dogs have been introduced to - since she seems to love absolutely everyone, she’s been able to give us a sense of how new dogs interact with others. Thank you for your service to our staff and dogs, Lady - it’s high time you get to call a home, and a family, your own! Congratulations to Susan for finding a perfect match in Lady - lucky stars, both of you 💫

It was great to be back in Santa Fe for an adoption event at Violet Crown Santa Fe! Thank you so much for inviting us to such a great and welcoming location. Kim was one of nine lucky kittens and puppies who found loving homes with wonderful families. Larkin and her family said it was great to have another female in the home :) Watch for more adoption locations in Santa Fe in the coming weeks! A New Year coming home story of hard work, hopeful hearts, and a magic spark of serendipity: Kareem. During these days of resolutions, sometimes some of us feel less like we’re crushing our goals and more like we’re being crushed by them. So goes the story with Kareem, who became the face of our hopes and dedication … and our struggle and disappointment too. Our staff has been working tirelessly since July 7 to find this guy a home:

*Intake date: 7/7/21, stray dog
*Adoption events attended: 11
*Foster homes: 4
*Features: newspapers multiple times, social media more times than we can count, eblasts, website.
*Number of his photos above desks and phones with his face as the Lock Screen: not sure, but many.

He was everyone’s special project, but it seemed like no matter how hard we tried collectively and individually, he just wasn’t getting adopted. It was frustrating and demoralizing and it felt like nearly six months of daily work wasn’t enough.

On his 11th adoption event just before Christmas at Violet Crown Santa Fe, there was again no interest in him. The goal was crushing us: the hard work wasn’t paying off, and Kareem would wake up in 2022 in a kennel again.

But then Autumn, a staff member at Violet Crown, woke up that morning of the event and realized she had left her wallet at work the night before. She arrived to retrieve it, and found the adoption event winding down. And then, something serendipitous happened: she saw Kareem, and the magic spark kindled. She hadn’t been looking for a dog, but always knew she wanted a furry companion - and Kareem, now Bernie, was that one she’s always wanted.

The point of this story is that sometimes, hard work seems futile. But sometimes all that hard work needs is alchemy. Kareem says thank you to everyone who didn’t give up on him, to his new mom for forgetting her wallet, and to those sparks of serendipity that change your life forever. Happy New Year from all of us to all of you. Work hard, invite magic.

Speaking of "two-fers" Earl and Jane decided that two kittens are always twice the fun and went with Aspen and Colby during our special Toyota of Santa Fe adoption event hosted by our friends at Violet Crown Santa Fe on Saturday! We had such a blast and we know that Jane and Earl will have fun keeping up with these two. We have plenty more kittens and puppies at the shelter. Please #adopt!

This week's Baby's Day Out screening is Marry Me.

Music superstars Kat Valdez and Bastian are getting married before a global audience of fans. But when Kat learns, seconds before her vows, that Bastian has been unfaithful, she decides to marry Charlie, a stranger in the crowd, instead.

This is a Baby's Day Out screening. The film will be presented with lights up and sound lowered. Baby changing stations are provided inside the auditoriums along with complimentary wipes and diapers so parents can keep up with their film while tending to their little ones. Eye rolls, shushing and complaints are not allowed.
