Giving USA 2019: Most Nonprofits Will Need to Work Harder for Their Money

Many have been waiting for this annual update to see if and how the new tax laws may affect philanthropic giving. They have affected giving and it's not looking good. This morning, Giving USA released its report on US charitable giving in 2018. Few will find reason for enthusiasm in the numbers, but NPQ has a few urgent action items for philanthropy and nonprofits. 06/07/2019

c/o New Mexico Community Foundation Wildfire Mitigation Clearinghouse FeasibilityStu

Please vote for Wildfire Mitigation Clearinghouse - Feasibility Study proposal to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) – Wildfire Division. Wildfire Community Preparedness Day is Saturday May 4, 2019. This award is to help offset the minimal costs to promote and host a panel discussion with businesses based in Santa Fe, Pecos and Jemez to discuss their experiences with wildfire and their business recovery and resiliency efforts. Voting ends Friday March 1 at 9:59PM MST/11:59PM EST.

Wildfire Mitigation Clearinghouse - Feasibility Study

Wildfire Mitigation Clearinghouse will facilitate the development of policies, educational materials, marketing plans, public awareness of wildfire risks, small business directories, and private / public partnerships needed to address the threat that catastrophic wildfires pose to our community.

There are 3,000 homeowners in the Santa Fe Fireshed that includes a sensitive and highly populated Wildland Urban Interface zone. The maps that follow show most of these homes to be located in areas of high or extreme risk of wildfire. A catastrophic fire in this area could result in significant loss of life, cost tens of millions of dollars to fight, destroy irreplaceable historic assets and cause over a billion dollars in lost property value. 09/26/2018

Myths and Opportunities: What's Happening in Rural Philanthropy?

"...the most harmful misconception outsiders bring to rural philanthropy is to think that communities are any less capable of understanding their needs and directing their own work than urban neighborhoods." Experts and top funders in rural America say there’s far more activity and sophistication in this corner of philanthropy than most people realize. But also some challenging issues, especially for newcomers to the field.
