Takra (yogurt probiotic drink)
Great Protein & enzymes, kindles digestive fire (agni)
Takra will also help to normalize the digestive flora (bacterial balance), improves absorption on nutrients and eases digestion: reducing gas and diarrhea, bloating and reflux. It is easily absorbed and enhances ability to nourish the self. Drink after meals or between meals for a 4:00pm snack.
Yogurt : water
Vata 1 : 1
Pitta 1 : 2
Kapha 1 : 4
Add herbs, digestives and let sit uncovered at room temperature for 3 hours minimum. The longer it sits, the more flora builds and the spices get richer.
When possible use unhomogenized, non-fat organic yogurt
For Vata use: Cinnamon, cumin, nutmeg
or 1/8 tsp salt + 1/8 tsp. Pippali or ¼ tsp hingwastika
For Pitta use: Cardamom, fennel, turmeric, coriander, ½ tsp of each herb according to taste
Or ½ tsp licorice plus ½ tsp sugar
For Kapha use: dry ginger, hot pepper, hot mustard

A customer called me asking how to deal with COVID in Ayurveda. My response was I would balance Vata. Always starting with Vata. I went on to say that there is just not enough info for me to deduce more than pacifying Vata with Lifestyle, Diet and Herbs.

Then my Ayurvedic client showed me this article by Dr. John Douilard.

Atreya suggests an epidemic comes as a result of abnormal conditions in nature, including stars, planets, moon, sun, air, and fire, deranging the environment and the seasons. Herbs lose their nutritional value and potency, while disease and epidemic ensues. He says if medicinal herbs are harvested before this disturbance in the natural cycles and administered correctly, there would not be any difficulty in counteracting an epidemic.

For when and if you get the Rona!!

As you may know, we have been sick with *VID in our home for the last few weeks. And not an altogether light version of it. However, we are feeling better and now sending 🙏 for numerous friends that I am reading about who are becoming ill.

Nourishing ourselves when both of us were sick was a bit challenging, so I thought I would pass on some ideas that worked for us.

💕Self-compassion. Self-compassion. Despite any of the extraordinary measures that you might have taken to avoid getting sick, it has arrived. And more than anything, you need to embrace how precious you are. It probably isn't time to learn all about Kristen Neff's work, but the long and short of it is… don't believe all your thoughts at this time and speak as you would to dear friend to yourself.

🥣Focus on making vegan soups with spices and a wide variety of veggies. We also wanted to be mindful of not exposing others, so we used Instacart and had friends drop things off. Load up on veggies, soup stocks, lentils, and quinoa. This is for plant-based folx. You may have another way… however, this is how we did it.

🌙If feasible, avoid heavy, harder-to-digest meals at night. I find this allows for better digestion and rest at night. I learned this in my Ayurvedic training.

💧Pay attention to hydration. It was like I was in a sauna at times. We mainly did ginger, turmeric, and lemon in warm water.

🍓Oatmeal with stewed berries. Recipe coming. Cooked berries are delicious and full of anti-oxidants. We mostly used frozen berry blends.

😍Nourish the senses with love. I've shared about this in the past.

👯Stay in touch with your community and medical team. Let people who love you love you! Much of my community here serve others in some healing capacity. I see your burnout as you have been helping through this pandemic. If you get sick, resist the urge to disappear. AND importantly, even if you are a doctor of some kind, make sure you have a clinician that knows you are sick and works with you to address any medical concerns. 🙏

I made Boba tea.

I received large tapioca pearls as a gift in Canada. I placed two cups in boiling water for five minutes on simmer.
Drained and rinsed with cold water.
Then I made two separate teas: green tea and earl grey tea. Cooled the tea.
Added oat milk and a 1/2 teaspoon maple syrup and 1/2 cup cooked Boba pearls.


My mistake was I saved some in the fridge and my kids went to drink theirs the next day.
I drank mine the same day and it was delicious. Their tapioca pearls hardened overnight. Big lesson. Drink same day.

These three potent roots, known as the Trinity Roots, are essential for cleansing, sustaining, and producing energy in the body. Let's talk a bit about them.

Garlic is known for fighting viruses and bacteria. It also increases sexual energy. Combine its benefits with the practice of Kundalini Yoga, and you will see greater spiritual awareness. You can eat it raw, steamed, or baked, or you can take it in capsule form.

Onion is a universal healing food. It helps to purify and build new blood as well as increase mental clarity. You can eat it raw, which is the preferred method, but it can also be juiced or cooked. Onions are recommended for colds, fever, laryngitis, and diarrhea.

Ginger Root is excellent to drink as tea or juice, and it can also be used as a spice. Ginger soothes and strengthens nerves by nourishing spinal fluid, and increases energy and vitality. It is especially useful for menstruating women.

The beneficial effect of each of them separately is amplified when they are cooked together.

Raw Vegan Cheesecake

Amazing Summertime Recipe
Cheesecake is usually super rich and filling. This version is cool, light and refreshing using raw coconut and coconut oil as the base.

Raw Vegan Cheesecake

Date crust
1 cup almonds or pecans or macadamia nuts or brazil nuts
1 cup dates
½ tsp salt
Blend in a food processor and press firmly into the bottom of a pie pan or better yet, a springform pan

Filling
Soak 2 cups of cashews
Drain cashews and place in Vitamix for two hours minimum
Cover by 1/2” in liquid:
1 fresh coconut and meat
Fresh fruit flavor (optional)
¼ cup honey or maple syrup
lemon, freshly squeezed, enough to turn the cashews white
Pinch of salt
1 tsp Vanilla
3 tsp lecithin powder (optional)
At the end add 3/4 cup of Coconut Oil and blend
Pour the filling over the crust and then put in the freezer for two hours or in the fridge for 6 hours. This will keep in the freezer for weeks if you can resist.

Breathing Exercise II

Since you guys loved our last breathing exercise video, we have a new one for you all, specially made in Mexico!
Take a few minutes of your day to practice and comment below the changes you feel in your body and mind.

Sitali Pranayama is often translated as “the cooling breath” because the act of drawing the air across the tongue and into the mouth is said to have a cooling and calming effect on the nervous system. To practice Sitali, you need to be able to curl the sides of your tongue inward so that it looks like a straw or taco
If you can’t curl your tongue you can just stick it out.

In yoga, we talk a lot about stoking the internal fire (agni) through vigorous movements and directed breathing. But breathwork can also be used for the opposite effect: to calm and cool the body down.

Though the exact origins of this technique are unknown, it is popular in Kundalini yoga and is regularly makes appearances in other types of yoga classes during the summer months. Sitali is also frequently prescribed in Ayurvedic medicine for people with fiery pitta constitutions.
