Just wondering if anyone has noticed algae collecting on your fountain? What are you doing to treat or prevent it?

Colorado installations day 1: these clients now own four of my pieces (not including the two they bought back when they lived in Arizona). This time around we installed the Petrified Wood fountain in an in ground basin that you see first. The 6 ft tall Red Canyon Onyx in the back (in an above ground basin) was installed last summer. The other two are in the front of the house and will be in the next post : )

Colorado installations day 1, part 2:
Here are the other two of the client's four fountains installed in front of the house in Denver. The Vista Rosa Onyx piece with the wave carved down the center is 48 inches tall and placed facing the sidewalk for the public to enjoy, which we installed about 3 years ago. The other Brown/Black Onyx we installed this round is 44 in tall and set by the front door and outdoor dining table.

We installed two of the four (other two in previous post) last Monday after loading out our show Monday morning. Looooooong day number 1 done!

Monday! Here you see raw slabs after being cut from very large hand picked boulders. We will cut these down into the individual pieces that are then hand carved and hand polished. Having larger slabs allows me to map out commissioned works, compare design to color and cut the stones into proper proportions. Quite often it is the art of making a piece look "natural" while applying the all important dimensions to create a strong aesthetic.
Time to get Dusty!

Splitting more large slabs to fabricate taller pieces to take to Arizona in the next month. When the stone is really solid and stable It will ring when hit with a hammer and chisel. Famous sculptor Jesus Morales used this concept to make musical type sculptures out of granite 🔥

TX installs Oct '20: this white and brown Canyon Onyx piece with a wave carved in the face stands 56" in the above ground basin and is tapped into one of the sprinkler heads to fill it. Enjoy!

TX installs Oct '20: this was a commissioned Black Canyon Onyx piece featuring the bronze sculptures of Yenny Cocq - it was the couple's 10th anniversary gift to each other and stands 42" tall. Perfect!

Hello Texas Folks!
Since the Cottonwood Art Festival did not happen in early October, I will be travelling to the Dallas area in 9 days, October 26 - 30 and staying for a week to instal my fountains for clients that have been patiently waiting.

If you are ready for a Sculpted work, a natural Red, Brown or Black Onyx piece or a Petrified Wood fountain, I have about 60 new available pieces listed on my website HERE http://rocksteadydesigns.com/artwork/available-work/

Simply call or email me to reserve any of these works or ask any questions or request additional photos. I will bring the work and instal it in an In Ground or Above Ground basin and tap it into a drip irrigation line or sprinkler line if possible. All we need is an electrical outlet.

I am happy to discuss larger/commissioned projects to be delivered in the Spring.

Hey Ken, here are photos of the different sides of the piece you like. I will post a video next...

Here's a simple above ground installation we did this past week in Santa Fe. This brown Canyon Onyx piece is offset from the front walkway and placed in front of their kitchen window so they can see it from inside. Placement is everything!

07/22/2020

Take a look at this Red Petrified Wood installation we did in Santa Fe last week. Simple design, robust sound and installed in 4 hours. I have plenty more ready to instal or ship directly to you!

07/10/2020

Here's a Black Canyon Onyx duo we installed last week north of Denver in a custom built in ground basin. They stand 64" and 52" tall, run off of one pump and are plumbed into the sprinkler system for autofill. This was a commissioned project so I worked with the clients to find just the right stone, height and configuration they wanted.

07/10/2020

Here's another installation we did in Denver last week. This simple Red Canyon Onyx piece stands 68" in the above-ground basin and lives in a courtyard that six homeowners share. You see the fountain straight ahead as you walk in the opposite end of the space : )

07/08/2020

Went to Denver this past week and restocked Creative Living with new Onyx pieces both sculpted and natural. These are just some of their selection. Pop in and have a look!

07/08/2020

Here's another one of a kind sculpted piece installed at Creative Living in Denver. "Red Canyon Vista" stands 74" in the above ground basin and would be the centerpiece of your space. I'll instal it!

Anchorum St. Vincent (St
Vincent hospital) got their new commissioned hand carved stone fountain up and running yesterday. The design was based on their basket weave logo and I wanted to create one that refected both interconnectivity and the aesthetic of our intimate Santa Fe community. The stone is native New Mexico travertine and stands 60" tall. Thank you Anchorum for this wonderful opportunity!

05/05/2020

Here's another one of a kind sculpted Red Canyon Onyx fountain installed in Denver. These "holes" sculptures are great pieces for the middle of the yard. This one stands at 60" and was commissioned by the client. Are you ready for yours? Message me now and I can send photos of available pieces and/or stone. They can be shipped or installed by me when I go to your area this summer!

[04/08/20]   Not to worry folks, I will be making installation trips out to Colorado and Texas in early Summer. Contact me if you are ready for your fountain and let's plan!!!

[01/04/20]   Unique Art/Travel Opportunity for the right Person

Seeking a hardworking individual with a flexible schedule, motivation for advancement, friendly demeanor and inclination towards aesthetics.

I am a stone sculptor who designs and fabricates stone fountains and art work and also travels mainly to Texas, Colorado and Arizona all throughout the year selling the work at art shows. The person I seek would help fabricate the work in Santa Fe and also travel and help with the shows and instal sold work.
Reliable transportation, ability to stay in contact regarding schedule and during travel (have a smart phone) and a willingness to work/travel long days/nights depending on schedule is mandatory.
Signing a legally binding non-compete contract is required for employment.

The Studio Part:
STONE GRINDING. It is very labor intensive although we believe in “Smarter not Harder”. Large pieces of stone are cut and polished with hand saws, grinders, hand held polishers, hammers and chisels, etc. Stone grinding experience is not necessary but basic knowledge and past use of power tools is helpful. It is absolutely necessary to be able to follow directions and to be able to ask questions. Having an eye for visual balance, proportion and aesthetic quality is key to advancement. You will be dusty, dirty, sometimes soggy and maybe a little bloody if you’re not careful. All protective wear is provided (Goggles, gloves, etc). You provide a pair of Steel toed boots (required), good work pants and shirts.

NO DRUGS/ALCOHOL USE is tolerated in Studio or while working shows or installations. People with alcohol/drug/addiction issues need not apply. Random drug tests may be necessary for workers comp or insurance compliance.

The Travel/Shows part:
The upmost professionalism when working shows and/or dealing with clients is mandatory. Service industry and/or sales/art gallery experience is a bonus in this regard. You will be representing me as an Artist and my 20+ year career as a sculptor.
We typically will travel for 1 - 2 weeks out of state, staying in hotels, working the shows and completing installations. These are usually LONG DAYS. For example, the shows are sometimes set up after 7 hours of travel, starting at 6 PM, work till 1 AM and then open the next morning, then take it all down Sunday night after working the show all day. Usually we will work a show over a weekend, instal sold works the rest of the week and then load in another show the following weekend. Sometimes it’s only one show. Travel home depends on the completion of installations. Installations include digging holes, shoveling gravel and other landscaping type work. Shows are 2 - 3 days long where we have extensive conversations with potential clients. It is essentially a pop up art gallery and is presented as such.
Depending on the season, we work in the studio for 2 - 3 weeks, travel for 1- 2 weeks then back to the studio for maybe a week then travel again. It constantly changes. Being able to accommodate this lifestyle and be flexible with personal schedules is necessary.
Full disclosure: This lifestyle is not easy on relationships and is not recommended at all if you have children or other responsibilities that would require you to be home at certain times. Since I already have employees that travel, the constant travel schedule for all may be altered i.e one person travels one time then the other travels the next time. However there will be times (and most likely most of the times) that all employees will travel together. This will evolve once the right person is found.
All food/lodging is paid for during travel, your only cost would be personal expenditures.
Having a clean driving record and ability to drive a pick up truck with a trailer and be listed on my company auto insurance is needed.

This is an opportunity that hopefully would last for years. I am not just looking for a worker bee but someone that can help carry the company along with other employees. The person that can dedicate themselves to the success of the company will ultimately be more financially successful in the long run.

PAY: Anyone will start at the Living Wage amount of $12/hour with rapid advancement depending on ability, past experience, willingness to learn and general competence. $16/hour could be reached fairly quickly depending on these factors. Any pay above $16/hour is considered after 1 year. When traveling, overtime is often achieved quickly (time and a half pay) and sometimes results in 60+ hour weeks (All are paid weekly so that means 20 hours of overtime for 60 hour week). The busier we are, the more money you make. The more money we make at shows, the busier we are.

Please respond via email with resume, past relevant experience and other talents that you think would be useful in this position. Include contact information (phone number and email). I will contact you for an initial phone conversation and to schedule an interview.

Thank you
