Many pet owners hope to use cannabinoid products for their pets' ailments, which is why Colorado State University is gathering more data by conducting research into CBD treatment for pets.
Colby is a 6 1/2 year old Great Pyrenees that first came to us about 2 1/2 years ago because his right knee was injured. He has been an amazing success case in how rehab can help with injuries when surgery is not an option. After about 6 weeks of therapy, Colby was back to his regular 1 1/2 mile walks twice a day. We have been seeing Colby again recently because he was more painful and not able to walk as far. After getting a couple pounds off of him, adjusting his pain medication, and a few rehab "tune up" appointments, he is back on track! We are delighted that Colby and his Dad are able to take their long walks again. You are an amazing worker Colby!
Little Ray had knee surgery 7 weeks ago. The surgery went very well, but after 5 weeks Little Ray was still not using his leg much. The first time we got him in the underwater treadmill, he immediately started using the affected leg! Less than 2 weeks later, Little Ray has lost weight, and is using the leg more often than not. Have I mentioned lately that we have the best job ever?! We are so happy that you are doing so well Little Ray and appreciate the support from your mom!
How cute is Jerry?! He visited us for the first time this week and we are going to help get his hind legs stronger and his supporting muscles more comfortable. What a happy guy! We look forward to being part of your team Jerry!
Happy 9th Birthday sweet Maude!
Gracie's giant eyes and sweet demeanor causes our hearts to melt when she comes in for her rehab. She has a neurologic condition that causes weakness in her hind legs. She is a total trooper while doing her hydrotherapy in the underwater treadmill, and loves her exercises and laser treatment. Today she fell asleep with her head in Laura's hands during acupuncture. We love you Gracie!
Lilly is in the house!
We fell in love with Banana this week! We are helping strengthen her hind legs and lose a bit of weight. You are totally adorable Banana!
Aashi is the sweetest, gentlest Rottie, who cannot get enough of her tennis ball! She has painful elbows. Because she is lighter in the underwater treadmill, it is the perfect way to comfortably exercise and help her lose a few pounds. We are also helping to guide the owner with her pain management regimen. We love what an affectionate and joyful being you are Aashi!
Sugar Petite is ready to start her obstacle course!
Bucket came in today for a meet and greet while his kitty sister got laser. What a friendly, handsome, strong dog. Love your form on the sit pretty Bucket!
Meet Xena the princess warrior! We were so impressed with how brave Xena was for her first visit yesterday. At 14 years old, Xena, like many of our patients, has arthritis in many joints, and needs help getting stronger and more comfortable. We look forward to seeing you again next week Xena!
Toby is pretty sure that whatever is in the right side of the underwater treadmill (perhaps the door?!) is very compelling :)
At 13, Toby has amazing energy and we love channeling his exuberance to help get him stronger and more comfortable!
It was great to see you today Milo after your Holiday break! Milo comes in on a regular basis for intense underwater treadmill workouts to keep his hips strong. We missed your handsome face, Milo!
Brooklyn likes to hide behind the curtain after her laser treatment to get the full benefit of the hot air blowing from the heat register. She loves her "spa" days!
Here's a feel good story for the coming New Year! Jessie is 13 1/2 years old and about 9 months ago, when she first came to us, was barely able to go on walks, not able to jump in the car, and was generally not very comfortable or mobile. She now enjoys her daily walks, and occasionally can even go on a hike! Her dedicated owners helped her lose 13 pounds, and as you can see, she is quite svelte, making it much easier on her joints to move around. We see Jessie every other week for underwater treadmill therapy, therapeutic exercises, and laser. Jessie, you are one of the many reasons we love our job so much!
Sasha is quite the athlete, not to mention remarkably cute!
Sugar Petite is patiently waiting for her turn in the underwater treadmill. Sugar and Peaberry, you guys make Thursdays so fun!
Frozen baby food is the ultimate motivation when you are walking for 25+ minutes in the underwater treadmill. Peaberry so looks forward to his sessions that he jumps right into the treadmill!
What a joy to see Latigo today for his annual re-evaluation! Latigo has very subtle signs of hip and lower back pain. Lucky for him he gets at least 2 walks per day and his mom is dedicated to doing his Home Exercise Plan. We are going to work on getting him to lose a few pounds, make sure he's on the correct dosage of supplements and when the time is right, perhaps start acupuncture and laser to keep him as comfortable and mobile as possible! Latigo, you are so lucky to have such a dedicated mom.
Maise is demonstrating an amazing core stretch! She comes in monthly for "tune ups" after having back surgery a couple of years ago. Maise you always make our day brighter!
Remember Gigi? The pup from the shelter we were helping get back on her feet? She got adopted this weekend! We wish you all the best in your new home Gigi!
Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society
Here's a sweet adoption - Shanna and Gigi! The two met each other yesterday and decided to become family! Gigi is the pup who came in with a fracture and has been receiving TLC from foster mom Caroll and help with rehabilitation with Bounce Back Integrative Veterinary Rehabilitation LLC. Thanks to all of you for helping make wishes come true. #Adopt
Here's Lola being quite the brave girl during her first underwater treadmill session. Keep up the good work Lola!
It's always a good day when a sweet pup wants to snuggle with you after a sometimes scary first visit to the rehab vet! I was totally gratified that Lola forgave me for touching her sore knee!
Della also has an old knee injury which has been managed well with rehab, weight loss, pain management and moderate hiking. She comes in once a month for laser and acupuncture "tune ups" to help keep her as comfortable and mobile as possible. Max is there for emotional support. Check out those ears!!!
Lilly has exceeded my expectations already! Both of her cruciate ligaments (knees) are damaged, and her front end is showing signs of breaking down due to the excess wear and tear. When she first visited us last week, she would not stand up for long, and we weren't even really able to do any exercises with her. A week later, she has lost 2+ pounds, is on pain meds, and is already showing signs of improvement! She walked further in the underwater treadmill, and was able to do exercises today without laying down.
We are so happy to be working with you Lilly, and the best part was seeing how excited you were to come in and see us today!
I am 99% certain that at 18 years old, Bosco is the oldest patient I have seen at my clinic. It is a delight to be a part of the team helping to keep him as comfortable and mobile as possible. We love how trusting you were with us today Bosco and can't wait to see you next week!
Thor was in the house today! We are so proud to be a part of the team helping to keep this big, gentle guy going well into his 11th year. We love you Thor!
Miss Izzy came to us after experiencing back pain and weakness in her hind legs. She was initially taken care of by her regular vet, and our best educated guess is that she has intervertebral disc disease in her mid back, which causes pain in her spine and can eventually lead to weakness and sometimes even worse, in the hind legs. Like many dogs with mild signs, she has recovered well with rest and medication and now rehab! We are working on helping her lose weight, and getting her core and hind legs even stronger so that hopefully she won't have another scary episode like this again!
