I don't recommend using a salt or sugar scrub of any kind on your face.
If you look at sugar and salt under a microscope, you will see that they aren't perfectly smooth and have sharp points. These sharp points can tear our skin on a microscopic level (micro-tears). Continued micro-tearing of our skin can lead to broken capillaries and weakened skin that will age poorly.
If you prefer to use a physical exfoliant on your face, consider jojoba beads exfoliants. The beads are spherical and do not micro-tear the delicate skin on our faces.

We owe this gentleman, Alfred Cralle, a huge thank you!
Alfred Cralle is the inventor of the Ice Cream Scoop, originally called the "Ice Cream Mold and Disher". Have you tried scooping ice cream with a spoon? The darn thing sticks to the spoon! He observed the difficulty associated with scooping ice cream and getting it into cones and wanted to solve that problem.
The Ice Cream Mold and Disher was patented in 1897 and was more cone like in appearance (next post) than the scoops we know today.
Bath Thyme Bakery is inspired by all things sweet and we love the look of scooped ice cream. 🥰😍
Hats off to an amazing inventor did not get the acknowledgement he deserved for his invention.
The original Ice Cream Scoop founded by Alfred Cralle, an African American Inventor, in 1897 (in previous post). It would be so cool to get a vintage "Ice Cream Mold and Disher".
We are beautiful at EVERY age 🥰
How do the words/phrases "anti-aging" or "aging gracefully" make you feel?
Here’s a quick breakdown on the difference between hydrating vs moisturizing our skin.
Here’s a quick breakdown on the difference between hydrating vs moisturizing our skin.
Handmade meets science over here!
I'm gaining so much knowledge in my cosmetic science program that's helping me create science-driven handmade skin care... that works!
The development of these shampoo formulations has been a welcomed labor of love over the last 6 months.
Now time for FACTS:
Y'all know I ADORE artisan soaps, however, they should NEVER be used on ANYONE'S hair. This is because the salts in soap react with the dissolved minerals in water (calcium, magnesium, copper, etc.) resulting in soap scum that is deposited on to the hair.
As you may know, soap scum is insoluble in water !
Long term mineral buildup will leave our hair with a dull appearance, dry texture, and/or "crunchy" feel. It may seem like products don't work anymore or like our hair is difficult to style. You may even notice that water takes forever to penetrate your hair.
The good news is that you can use my clarifying/chelating shampoo bars to help remove minerals and product build up from your hair.
These beautiful bars will be released on BTBs website February 18, 2022!
3 Ingredient Highlights:
🧁Niacinamide @ 3% is moisturizing: It helps supports our skin's moisture barrier and it visibly improves our skins texture and appearance.
🧁Sodium Lactate is hydrating: It’s a moisturizing humectant MORE POTENT than glycerin that supports deep hydration of the skin.
🧁Allantoin Powder is moisturizing and exfoliating: It’s gentle and it helps reduce dry and flaky skin, ultimately, supporting our skins ability to receive hydration.
The pH rests between 4.5-5.
The gift that keeps on giving, Bakuchiol.
A well studied and scientifically backed ingredient that suits several skin types.
It has anti-aging, acne-reducing, and complexion enhancing properties.
Let's elaborate just a little further.
🧁Retinol is highly effective in treating various skin concerns including wrinkles, dull skin, acne (by unclogging pores), and more. Studies have shown Bakuchiol to offer similar results but without the harsh side effects - e.g. sensitivity to the sun, skin irritation, and redness.
🧁Anti-aging: Bakuchiol increases cell turnover and collagen production. More specifically Collagen type 1, 3, and 4. Collagen aids in the elasticity and firmness of our skin. Reduced collagen can lead to wrinkle formation.
🧁Acne-reducing: Bakuchiol is clinically proven to be more efficient than salicylic acid (we love salicylic acid over here too!). It is also proven to reduce acne by 48% after 6 weeks of use.
🧁Enhanced texture/complexion: Given the aforementioned, a decrease in acne, wrinkles, and an increase in the firmness and elasticity will help support enhanced texture.
What do you guys think about Bakuchiol?

Hey Ice Cream Sundaes,
I have reformulated BTBs Pots de Creme body creams to be even more dynamic than before.
I wanted to create something special that could amp up our body care regimen and the overall quality and condition of our skin through continued use.
Here are just 3 Ingredient Highlights:
🧁Niacinamide @ 3% is moisturizing: It helps supports ourskin's moisture barrier and it visibly improves our skins texture and appearance.
🧁Sodium Lactate is hydrating: It’s a moisturizing humectant more potent than glycerin that supports deep hydration of the skin.
🧁Allantoin Powder is moisturizing and exfoliating: It’s gentle and helps reduce dry and flaky skin, ultimately, supporting our skin's ability to receive hydration.
With this reformulation, BTB offers you a conditioning body cream that hydrates, moisturizes and improves the visible appearance of our skin. It is also formulated with a pH of ~4.5-5 (see previous post on the importance of pH)
Other ingredients include: Murumuru Butter, Sal Butter, Rice Bran Oil, Apple Extract, and Prickly Pear Seed Oil

Hey crème brulées! We love bath bombs over here!
We ran a simple experiment to take a closer look at how bath bombs can impact the pH of bath water.

Hey cream puffs!
What's your take on pH and skincare? Let us know below.
pH is important for our skin (and hair) health. The average pH of skin is 4.7, however it can range from pH 4-7 (7 is neutral..less than 7 is acidic)
That being said, our skin barrier is disturbed when there are elevations in its pH. Disturbance could result in weakened barrier function, a reduction of ceramide-generating enzymes (the good guys), increase in acne causing bacteria, exacerbated eczema, dermatitis, dryness, and more.
The positive? - Our skin can recover from pH disturbances. However, it can take up to 90 minutes for normal skin to recover from something as innocent as using a high pH product.
Discovering the pH of our skin and hair products is important. We want to maintain the acidity as best we can. For skincare, we recommend keeping an eye out for products in the pH range of 4.5-6.5 and for hair, 4-5.5.
