The Sky Center - "We have been working tirelessly around the clock to ensure that our su***de prevention services are not interrupted for youth and families in distress. The Sky Center has been able to make rapid adjustments in how behavioral health is delivered to youth and families struggling with a variety of issues amplified by this pandemic. Through Zoom, phone calls and in-person sessions on our outdoor patio, services have continued and are highly accessible for those seeking help. Spanish language interpreters are always available. This has been made possible in part with emergency funds from our community partners."

All Together NM Grantee Spotlight:

The Sky Center/New Mexico Su***de Intervention Project – “During this public health crisis [our staff] has been working tirelessly around the clock to ensure that our su***de prevention and crisis services are not interrupted for youth and families in distress. With emergency funding from ATNM Fund, the Sky Center has been able to make rapid adjustments in how behavioral health is delivered to youth struggling with depression, anxiety, family conflicts and other related su***de risk behaviors—all amplified with the pandemic. Through video ZOOM, phone calls and in-person sessions on our converted and comfortable outdoor patio, services have continued and are highly accessible for youth and their families.”

The All Together NM Fund was established by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham's office in conjunction with the New Mexico Coalition of Community Foundations (Santa Fe Community Foundation, Taos Community Foundation, Albuquerque Community Foundation, Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico) to assist New Mexicans in responding to and eventually recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic.

This Spring the Academy will offer a series of workshops and learning opportunities for educators and all that work in a school or community setting. Our offerings center reflection in community and building self-knowledge as pathways to renewal and transformation.

The Teacher Renewal Workshop Spring Series, beginning this Saturday, invites educators to slow down, experience relief from classroom stressors, and practice awareness-based professional development in community. Professional development funds are available. Learn more ✏️ http://bit.ly/TeacherRenewal2020

Our second offering is The Path Forward in Challenging Times, a collaboration with The Sky Center, on Saturday, March 7th. We invite educators, counselors, social workers, and community service organization members to practice responding rather than reacting to classroom challenges through practicing awareness and being in the moment. CEUs are available. Learn more ✏️ http://bit.ly/PathForward2020
The Sky Center is one of our valued community partners. Follow them on Facebook to learn more about their su***de intervention projects.
Our Semicolon Support Group is for youth who have attempted or contemplated su***de. Since its founding four years ago, no Semicolon group participants have attempted su***de.

For the last two years, 100% of group participants have reported that they feel more supported than they did before participating in the group. When asked “On a scale of 1-10, how supported do you feel when facing challenges?” average post-survey responses were 9.0 / 10 in May 2019, compared to 2.9 / 10 when they started the program.

The weekly Semicolon Group is run jointly with our fantastic collaborative partner, The Sky Center. Learn more at gerardshouse.org/semicolon-support-group/.

Grateful for the generosity of Horno Restaurant for hooking up The Sky Center for our holiday party!! Heather and David Sellers graciously hosted us, scrambling to create seating for 30 of us outside on a chilly December day… you kept us warm and well fed! The food is AMAZING, the hospitality warm and kind. After a fall that had staff and interns navigating a tsunami of mental health crises, to be nourished and to celebrate together with our Board of Directors in this way was nothing short of extraordinary. We can’t thank you enough. @davidbsellers @hsellers183 @hornorestaurant

The Sky Center has deep, working partnerships with local schools, hospitals and other community service providers. We work closely with academic institutes offering training and internships for current or rising clinicians. We are locally funded and rely on the community to provide funding to enable our services to be delivered at no cost with limited barriers. We recognize this public health crisis needs a strong, informed and unified community response.

Unfortunately, su***de is a largely ignored issue until it is brought to the forefront by the incomprehensible death of a child. The following statistics do not reveal the true extent of the problem: the devastating loss of promise and hopefulness in a young life that is impossible to quantify:

-Death by su***de is now more common than death from traffic accidents for children aged 10 to 14/
-New Mexico ranks FIRST in the nation for youth su***de ages 15-19.
-40% of Santa Fe County high school students felt persistent sadness or hopelessness; 17% seriously considered su***de; and almost 10% attempted su***de in the past twelve months.
-40% of LGBTQ youth (including more than half of transgender and non-binary youth) report seriously considering su***de in the past 12 months.

Did you know spending time in nature reduces stress and is very healing for us physically?
There are even studies showing that trees release chemicals that reduce the stress hormone cortisol in our bodies but we often forget that humans actually ARE a part of nature too.
