In addition to responding to calls, and painting station lines, some of our volunteers and SFCFD "C" shift cleared weeds around the Station. While we're grateful for the monsoons and the recent reduction in fire danger, weeds will die and dry, adding to fire danger. We don't have "before" photos, but the "after" photos show the awesome job they did! Please consider pulling your weeds now while the soil is soft!

It's not all responding to people's needs. Last Sunday some of our volunteers and SFCFD "C" shift repainted the lines that help us line up to park apparatuses in the Station bays. We have a few inches of clearance on each side of our larger pieces, so parking can be a challenge!

Today’s simulation was a vehicle had gone off the edge and rolled various times with an entrapped patient. Crews were able to get to the simulated patient with the stokes litter basket.
The day and the views were incredible. Great training!

On Black Friday LCFD volunteers helped with ladder and hose testing. Ladders are tested by fully extending them and placing 500 pounds of pressure on the midpoint of the ladder for 5 minutes. Hoses are tested to 200 PSI. We tested all of our hoses and ladders. These tests help ensure the safety of our personnel, and that that our equipment will work when we need it.

Santa Fe County’s first fire chief remembered as ‘visionary’

santafenewmexican.com Several firefighters who had worked with Stan Holden said that without him, the county might have waited years to establish a department.

Members from Madrid FD, Turquoise Trail FD, La Cienega FD, Tesuque FD, Santa Fe county Tech Rescue team, and Santa Fe county FD regional members came together to locate a disoriented hiker. The patient was located with no injuries, and was assisted back down a mountain to safety. Great job!

We all bleed red...

We all bleed red. It's the only color that matters.
With Deputy Matt & Others Who Serve Deputy Hook'em and Deputy Book'em Frank Somerville KTVU Nazy Javid

From the FB feed of Valerie Wheeler:
"Heading home this afternoon, I saw an older white woman lying flat out on the sidewalk on the corner of Peoria and 49th Street, with a young Asian woman trying to talk to her. I did a quick u-turn and pulled into the parking lot of Burger Street just as another car pulled in.
I jumped out of my car at the same time that a young black man jumped out of his.
We both did a quick check and found that the woman was using a walker and had fallen backwards hitting her head on the cement.

I said I would call 911, the young black man went to his car and got a soft jacket and gently placed it under her head to shield her head from the scorching cement sidewalk (it was 100 degrees today).

Soon other angels began to arrive.

One middle aged white woman got an umbrella out of her car to shield the woman’s face from the sun, another got towels out of her car to place under the woman’s bare arms.
A young Hispanic employee from Burger Street came out with a bucket of clean, cool water and a rag to place on her forehead.
We all: Black, white, Asian and Hispanic worked together to aid an older white woman who had fallen.
This is the America I love and believe in. One with compassion, kindness, and love, regardless of race, age or sex."
