We were honored recently with the privilege of framing a collection of items representing great personal accomplishment. Our client, over a period of years, ascended 6 of the highest mountains in the world including Kangchenjunga which is considered one of the most dangerous mountains in the world for climbers. She started with Mt Rainier, then over a period of years surmounted Mt Fuji, Imja Tse, Chola Tse, Kangchenjunga, and Lobuche, where in these challenging destinations she pursued her profession photographing and documenting some of the most wild and remote places of the world. Definitely one of the coolest shadowboxes we have ever made for anyone. Thank you, and Congratulations ! Cira Crowell.

This just completed project is a vintage Chinese robe embroidered with gold thread. Fabulous craftsmanship!
We mounted a 100% black pongee silk fabric to a board then hand sewed the robe onto the fabric covered board. To keep the piece from laying flat against the wall we created a foam board box for the back so the finished piece stands off the wall 1 1/2 inches. We attached a hanging wire to the back for easy installation.
The resulting presentation conveys a sense of mystery as well as contemplative dignity befitting the stature of the original owner and the fine craftsman who created the robe.

Fine Art Framers is taking job applications to fill two picture framer positions, one part time and one full time. We prefer to hire qualified picture framers with at least one year of experience working as a production picture framer but will consider applicants with related skills. The job requires knowledge of a variety of fine art mediums and the proper handling of fine art works on paper and paintings on canvas. Art school training and training in design and color is more than helpful.
The basic minimum requirement for the job is knowledge of and skill in the use of a standard American tape measure. As well knowledge and use of a variety of hand tools such as an adjustable square, box cutters, wire snips, screw drivers, awls, and pliers, as well as knowledge and use of a variety of power tools such as electric screw drivers and drills, and pneumatic staple gun and nail gun. Knowledge and use of a wall mounted board and glass cutter is helpful and knowledge and use of a vacuum press and CMC machine helpful. Some customer service skills are helpful.
If you are a qualified applicant or have ancillary skills please send your resume to [email protected]

This afternoons project was mounting up a couple of little terracotta portraits by Glenna Goodacre. We placed the pieces onto fabric wrapped panels and then slipped the panels into acrylic boxes. Very understated ultra contemporary presentation for a couple of sweet little pieces. Such a pleasure to work with original pieces by an artist as talented as Glenna.

Display Your Keepsakes!
Why tuck them away in a drawer when you can show them off?
A client brought us a designer dress that had a special meaning for her. She wanted to display it in some manner. and after some brainstorming it became evident that the thing she really wanted to keep was the pink flower batik. We cut the flower away from the rest of the dress and wrapped it around a stiff board with two layers of batting under it to give it some dimension. We created depth inside the frame with white spacers and mounted the batik on to a fine white cotton fabric float board. The client chose a contemporary gold frame that set off the art work beautifully. Now the client has a unique personal artistic creation that she can show off to her friends and savor the good times the batik flower invokes.
The end result tickled me pink😄

A silver gelatin photograph of Cher glows when presented in a generous 8 ply polar white mat with a crisp contemporary white frame. Anti-Refection glass allows for easy viewing with the highest transmission of light. This tasteful dish was served up for a client who is finishing a guest room with this piece as le pez de resistance.

An acrylic box with a finished walnut and cherry base turned a $5.00 garage sale curio into an object worthy of arcane study.

This is a gem we finished recently. The framing of the loved painting conveys a feeling of cherished possession, or heirloom.

This was a piece we made a presentation for a few years back. I always liked the way it turned out. We created the platform from a solid piece of walnut sanded to a high degree to show all of the beautiful wood grain patterns, then oiled and waxed to a fine luster. The effigy, a piece brought back from the Dominican Republic, is a replica of indigenous clay art. We mounted the piece using a narrow steel shaft that the piece is secured to with wire that has a patina to match the color of the piece. When completed it looked worthy of a museum display.

This morning's project was mounting and framing an original Picasso gouache painting on paper. I don't know about you all, but the portrait looks like Hi**er with t**s to me😆. Still... What an honor to work on a piece by the hand of the master!.

After 26 years in business, I finally made a sweet little office space for myself😄. The coffee cup is from The Double R Cafe in Twin Peaks, WA.

My project this morning. SO Cool!

✨Wild Lenticular Print ✨ The image is made to morph from one object into another. Two or more views of a scene are printed on a thermoplastic sheet of lenticular (concave) lenses that look like parallel ridges. In order to align the image to the lens array, specialized, high-quality lithographic presses that can be adjusted to fine tolerances are used.
Dating back to the 1940s, millions of lenticular images have been printed on postcards, novelty items, political badges and religious scenes, as well as ads that change their message to the person walking by. The lenticular printing method evolved into 3D display screens with the advantage of not requiring the viewer to wear eyeglasses.

🌈 ✨ Happy Friday Santa Fe! ✨🌈

🤪 Happy April Fools’ Day 🤣 Our two Department Managers, from the left (Alexis & Michael), are my ride or die squad. I’m currently on my first real vacation in forever and they decided to play the worst April Fools’ prank on me for half an hour! Smart phones are a blessing and a curse. Always problem solving. Photo is right before winter break with our holiday wines.

There’s always something interesting at the shop. Check out this frame corner restoration and archival textile mount. The original corners had all completely broken off with only a few bits left to indicate the original design. The new corners were sculpted using a repair two part wood epoxy and various detailing tools.

🎃 Happy Halloween Eve! from today’s FAF Staff 🎃
It’s been a scary year, but we are so grateful to be Santa Fe Safe at the shop. Fine art framing is a strange business when it comes to the arts. It’s as fickle and rewarding as the arts realm can be. Heading up projects with so many museums, galleries, artists, and collectors can be pretty intense at times. We take pride at making it look easy. It’s thanks to our wonderful clients & amazing staff that we’ve been so productive and positive.
Have a fun and safe weekend!
