Badger's Log - 6/14

Today wasn't flashy.

Today was... adulting.

And honestly, those are sometimes the hardest days.

This morning I made a decision I'd been wrestling with for weeks.

I really wanted to get a Mini Lamancha buckling and start breeding miniature dairy goats. Tiny goats, cute babies, fresh milk, homemade cheese... it sounds like an absolute dream.

But dreams also require time.

Time to breed.
Time to care for pregnant does.
Time to raise babies.
Time to milk every single day.
Time to make cheese.

And if I'm being honest with myself, I don't have that time right now.

So today I made the responsible decision and declined the buckling.

It wasn't the fun choice.

It was the right choice.

Then I tackled something almost as rare...

Laundry.

Not one...

But TWO loads.

They actually made it into the dryer.

Then they actually got folded.

Then they actually got put away.

I know.

I'm just as shocked as you are.

No "laundry chair."

No "I'll get to it tomorrow."

No living out of the basket for the next two weeks.

Actual. Completed. Laundry.

Sometimes productivity isn't building gardens, designing 3D printed parts, hauling water, or planting flowers.

Sometimes productivity is making the boring, responsible decision... and folding your laundry before it becomes furniture.

Today's progress wasn't exciting.

But it was real.

And tomorrow, Future Badger will be pretty thankful.

**Badger's Log - 6/13**

Sometimes I think I'm making progress.

Then I make a list.

**Today's Wins:**

* Got the garden arch down.
* Got the wisteria pots ready for transplanting.
* Took down one strand of lights to move onto the sun sail.
* Printed the clips to hang the lights. Just need to mount the solar panel.
* Hauled home a tote of water and got everyone watered.
* Grocery run complete.
* Trash run complete.
* Chicken feeder filled.
* Had a little quality time with the hubby.
* Hung new carport plant hangers...
* ...at **11:00 PM last night**, because apparently daylight is optional.
* Planted and hung the new flower pots...
* ...at **11:30 PM**, because once the project starts, the project must be finished.
* Designed and 3D printed custom T-post and fence-post adapters so the new solar lights could be installed in the sitting garden.

**Still To Do:**

* Plant the deck garden.
* Mulch everything.
* Give everyone a deep watering (unless Mother Nature helps me out).
* Transplant the baby orchids.
* Print more hanging pots and figure out where to hang them.
* Put up the LED lights in the carport.
* Install edging along the walkway.
* Shovel the sand off the walkway.
* Evict the spiders that have apparently declared squatters' rights.

**The Barn:**

* Replace the panel the goats have trampled into oblivion.
* Decide whether to repair it... or just make it the official Goat Entrance.

**The Great Purge:**
The junk pile has officially outgrown our ability to haul it away one pickup load at a time.

It's time to find a handyman with a trailer and finally reclaim some space.

**The Storage Shuffle:**

* Pack down the baking wire shelving.
* Move it into storage.
* Move the baking rack into the shed.
* Organize the potting shed, which currently follows the highly advanced filing system known as "I threw it in there."

**Things Looking for New Homes:**

* Two gas grills.
* A smoker that absolutely won our battle of wills.
* A propane outdoor burner.
* Four patio chairs that need new straps but still have plenty of life left.

**The AC Saga:**
The unit I rescued yesterday works perfectly.

It just doesn't fit.

After a little discussion (and maybe a tiny disagreement), the hubby picked up a different unit that actually fits the bedroom. The rescued AC gets promoted to cooling the den, so it still gets a purpose.

Which means I still need to:

* Clear shelves for the new AC.
* Fold and put away Mount Laundry.
* Rearrange the den.
* Move my desk.
* Relocate the laser.
* Reorganize the shelving.
* Make room for more filament...
..and let's be honest...
..probably another 3D printer.

Oh...

And it's approximately **the temperature of Satan's air fryer** outside.

Every project comes with a complimentary gallon of sweat and the constant temptation to just lie on the cool tile floor until October.

Adulting is weird.

One minute you're designing custom 3D-printed hardware so your solar lights fit perfectly.

The next you're trying to decide if a broken barn wall is a repair project or just an architectural feature for goats.

Either way...

The Homestead Simulator save file continues.

Beautiful and delicious goodies I made last week!

Life can change in the blink of an eye.

A new chapter has opened, and I couldn't be happier. These days you'll find me at Henry & The Fish, where I get to spend my days doing what I love most: baking, creating, and sharing good food with good people.
From my cinnamon rolls and bagels to fresh baked treats coming out of the kitchen, I'm having an absolute blast. It's been incredible seeing the support from everyone who has stopped by, grabbed a pastry, or shared a kind word.
If you've been looking for my bagels or cinnamon rolls, that's where you'll find them now. Fair warning though, they tend to disappear quickly. Many days the bagels, cinnamon rolls, and other goodies are sold out before closing.
Thank you to everyone who has followed along on this journey, supported my baking, and encouraged me along the way. I'm excited for what's ahead and can't wait to share more delicious things with you.
See you at Henry & The Fish.

Well… we may have accidentally created a problem.

Introducing the Beignet Waffle.
And honestly? This thing should probably require supervision.

The Hungry Badger will be making its debut at the Pecos Farmers Market this Saturday with a very limited batch menu of fresh baked experiments, comfort food chaos, and the official launch of what may now become a permanent obsession.

Fresh beignet dough pressed into a waffle iron until golden and crisp on the outside while staying soft and pillowy inside, then drowned in house-made fresh raspberry sauce and finished with a snowfall of powdered sugar.

It tastes like a state fair, a French Quarter café, and poor decision making all collided in the best possible way.

We’ll also be introducing our new Honey Salted Bagel.
A chewy golden bagel lightly sweetened with honey and finished with flaky salt for that perfect sweet-and-savory bite that somehow makes you immediately want a second one.

And yes… the fresh baked ranch bread will also be making an appearance because apparently we woke up and chose carbs.

This is our first little test run for The Hungry Badger, so quantities will be limited and once things are gone, they’re gone.

Come early. Come hungry. Bring napkins.

Friday at Cakes Cafe means two very important things: Muffulettas and questionable decisions involving staying out later than intended.

Today’s special is our Bayou-style Muffuletta stacked high with meats, provolone, olive salad, and all the bold flavor you should probably sit down for. Messy in the best possible way.

Then tonight, the lights go down and the beats come up with EDM/House Music at Cakes. Coffee shop by day, nightlife gremlin by night.

And while you’re plotting your weekend plans:
Sunday is the Necrobotanist Plant Bazaar with plants, vendors, oddities, and all manner of leafy temptations.
Monday night is our Bagel Making Experience where you can learn to make New York-style bagels from scratch and leave smelling vaguely like a bakery.

Come grab food, hang out, sip something good, and slide into the weekend with us at Cakes Cafe.
