Not unlike the moody subject of this painting Pedro (Pere) Creixams (1893-1965) was a melancholic remembered as an important Spanish painter of the School of Paris. He studied in Barcelona at the Escuela Moderna before settling in Montmartre, Paris, where he applied his talent to imbuing the harlequins, gypsies, musicians, and acrobats of the City of Life with a sense of bohemian pride. Working with important dealer Paul Guillaume, his work appeared regularly alongside that of , and . Creixamsā vivid tones and broad brushstrokes are illustriously representative of the School of Paris in itās prime. More recently, his work has been exhibited in major shows including in Perpignan and at the Sorbonne.
