Hauling a trike? Check these 5 things first.

A three-wheel motorcycle changes everything about loading and towing.

Before you hit the highway:

1️⃣ Measure rear track width
Don’t eyeball it. Measure outer tire to outer tire. Many “motorcycle trailers” are too narrow for trikes.

2️⃣ Confirm ramp load rating
A 1,000–1,400 lb touring trike creates concentrated load pressure. Ramp strength matters more than people think.

3️⃣ Set proper tongue weight
10–15% of total trailer weight should sit on the hitch. Too light causes sway. Too heavy affects steering and braking.

4️⃣ Use correct tie-down angles
Front straps should pull forward and down at roughly 45°. Rear straps stabilize lateral movement. Straight-down straps aren’t enough.

5️⃣ Watch for early sway signs
If you notice oscillation in your mirrors at 55+ mph, slow down and adjust load position. Small movement becomes big movement fast.
