Summer Solstice is coming up! We were working on plans for renovating the old recycling center on Garden & Ortega to be a Community Arts Workshop with the City of SB's Redevelopment Agency and as some of you may know, the State of California has cut funding which has sadly put the project on hold. Here's some fun renderings of what the space could become if they get funding from somewhere else!

Upper Crust Trattoria was originally designed by Paul Poirier in 1999 with a quaint Italian village atmosphere and has since established itself as a strong local restaurant. The recent availability of an adjacent tenant space made an expansion possible.
The 4,700 s.f. renovation included a full bar, waiting area, banquet room, a kitchen expansion and new restrooms. Poirier + Associates reconfigured the restaurant to maximize intimate corners and to provide a variety of spaces for patrons to enjoy the Italian cuisine. The banquet room, with a view to a small enclosed garden with outdoor fountains, offers a space for special events and business meetings. The highlight of the space is the new bar at the entry of the restaurant, with a striking Brazilian granite bar top, a glass and stone tile mosaic, and a custom wood cabinet above the bar for liquor and glass storage. A sitting lounge, adjacent to the bar, was incorporated with a double-sided fireplace, and a stone archway was added to separate the bar from the existing dining room while keeping the original design intent of the space.
Poirier + Associates worked closely on the color and finish palette with the restaurant owners to reflect their design sensibility and to create an environment that highlighted the local artwork. Sustainable features include energy efficient LED light fixtures, lighting control systems, low water use plumbing fixtures, recycled content floor tile and toilet partitions, formaldehyde free cabinetry, low VOC paint and durable finishes, green label carpeting, and natural woven grass mats at the ceilings over recycled content sound board.
