Karen’s Spring-Cleaning Tips: Cleaning hanging light fixtures.

Proper and safe cleaning of the lights and bulbs in your home isn’t something you can rush through. Give yourself enough time to clean everything thoroughly and safely so you can enjoy the beauty and avoid accidents.

.Use the following tips for clean shades:
· Glass Shades – Use a soft damp cloth for light cleaning, or a gentle glass cleaner or soapy water for tough grime.
· Fabric Shades – Most fabric shades can be vacuumed gently to remove excess dirt. For serious stains, you’ll want to consider a dry cleaning product that you can use at home.
· Beaded Shades – Vacuum beaded shades frequently to avoid dust build-up. Use a damp cloth to remove stubborn spots, making sure to wipe gently and avoiding rubbing too hard on the beading.
· Paper Shades – In many cases you’ll be able to simply wipe paper shades with a dry cloth. If the dirt and dust becomes thick, you’ll need to replace it.
Most importantly. Turn off the lights before cleaning them to avoid getting shocked.

Karen’s Tips & Tricks:
Always mop after vacuuming. Diluting a little bit of cleanser in a bucket of water will help get your floors clean instead of gluing the dirt to the floor. And don’t forget to change the mop water a couple of times if you are mopping lots of floors! We recommend Murphy’s Oil Soap.

Karen's Tips & Tricks: Remove dirt, don’t move dirt.

When we really want to get those hard floors clean…Karen’s Kleaning always vacuums instead of sweeping. A vacuum sucks up all that dirt whereas sweeping tends to spread it around.

If you are doing it on your own, we suggest investing in a small canister vacuum. There are so many great affordable options, but the Mighty Might is our personal favorite!

Love a tidy look? Consolidate by taking care of surface clutter. Toss old reminder notes, stack magazines, and books together. Grab a cup and place pens inside. Little loose items get a basket. Your place will look calm and collected in no time.

Don’t forget you can put the shelves and salad drawers in the dishwasher to get them really clean. Use a toothpick to remove food residue that has collected in the join between the surface of the shelf and the surround. And make sure the drainage hole at the back is gunk- free using a cotton bud.

Shared tech such as the TV remote, computer keyboards and games console controllers can be microbe-magnets. Use a damp microfibre cloth to clear grime and dust, then a clean cloth spritzed with a disinfectant solution to tackle germs and viruses.
For those hard-to-reach spaces on your keyboard, turn the whole thing upside down and tap gently. Tease out stubborn dirt with a sticky note folded in two (sticky side out).
