Calmer Canines
Online & in-person private dog training. Certified Professional Dog Trainer. Family Paws Parent Educator. Family Dog Mediator. Dial Guide.
My main focus currently lies in working with families with dogs from pregnancy to teenagehood in order to create safe family dynamics and ensure dog ownership is enjoyable for all. However, I continue to work with everything from puppies to dogs with fear, aggression, and over-excitement issues as I have for the past 13+ years. I now offer online/virtual training through Zoom anywhere in the USA.

This is a phenomenal (and very affordable!) option for parents, grandparents, and caregivers looking for support while transitioning from life with dogs to life with a baby and dogs. It is equally helpful for those who are already in it (hello, toddlers!), but looking for ways to maintain your sanity and your kids' safety! Along with dozens of other experienced Licensed Family Paws Parent Educators, I'll be there to support you!
Even if you don't fall into this category of dog owners, please spread the word far and wide! Family Paws Parent Education often makes the difference between a dog staying in its home or needing to be rehomed, and the number of dog bites to children that have been prevented with this critical information is immeasurable, but very very real.

Little Dude is 2-3 years old. Probably a mini Schnauzer mix, but he's very short. We found him as a stray nearly 2 weeks ago and cannot keep him. We've tried multiple avenues to find his owners, including canvassing the neighborhood, and we are trying to avoid putting him in the shelter, but we really can't manage another dog right now. We're getting him neutered on Tuesday.
He's both a cuddler and an adventurer, and he must have been a mountain goat in a former life because he will jump onto and leap of off anything his little legs can reach, so you definitely need to keep your dining chairs pushed in! He loves the backyard. He's been quite tolerant of home grooming, though he's a bit nervous about it, and he's pretty submissive to humans in general. Fireworks don't seem to bother him, and he's been good with my 7yo kiddo, but he can get jumpy when anxious or over-excited, so I would recommend him for homes with kids 5yo and older. He's only chewed something up when in a complete panic the first time I left the house, and hasn't chewed anything since, even with my kiddo's toys left out everywhere.
Little Dude bonds quickly with females and more slowly with with males, but he's become fond of my husband over time. He really struggles with separation anxiety, so he will need to remain on anti-anxiety medication and follow a separation anxiety protocol with a WFH owner. He's a frustrated greeter on walks, but he's pretty easy to get to just keep walking past dogs after a couple grumbles and he's done well with a few dogs he's met including my own. Cats and small animals are an absolute no-go, though. I will provide training support to whomever adopts him. He'll be a funny little pal for a patient owner who can work with him and help him reach his true potential.
PM me for more details if you can foster or adopt him, but we are really aiming for an adoption so he doesn't get passed around any more than necessary. If we cannot find an adopter or a rescue group to take him, we are going to have to put him in the shelter. It breaks my heart, but we really can't keep him.

Kate will be volunteering at this FREE community car seat checkup event on Saturday 5/31. In addition to car seat checks, I'll be offering information on how to keep kids & dogs safe together in the car. Please reach out to the organizers at [email protected] to secure an appointment. Appointments last 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Did you know that the majority of parents/guardians are using their child's car seat incorrectly? Or that the vast majority of children need to be using a booster seat until at least age 10 to ensure proper seat belt fit?
How about the fact that driving with an unrestrained dog in the car puts you at increased risk of getting into an accident in the first place, and that a loose dog becomes a dangerous projectile during a crash? We urge you to get a car seat checkup with a CPST to ensure you're keeping everyone as safe as possible in the car.
We'll be posting here and on our website about both free and paid car seat checkup events/opportunities in Orange County, CA. Keep an eye out!

Helen has such a beautiful mission to help abandoned and discarded senior pups have a last chapter of their lives that is full of love and care. Can donate to help the organization continue their mission?
Folks, we need help. We are at the bottom of the barrel financially right now and need help. We cannot take in or help any more old dogs until we are above water and it’s been an incredibly expensive and exhausting few months. Between diagnostics and end of life care and all the medications on top of overhead we are really struggling.
If you can’t donate - can you share our mission? Every penny goes towards the care of these discarded, surrendered or transferred senior hospice animals and giving them the best possible end of life they could ask for. It’s a labor of love and passion and we would do anything for them.
If youve done facebook fundraisers we only get those at the end of every month, in one lump sum.
Funds we can access immediately can come through PayPal on our site -
Www.olddogsgotohelen.com/donate
You can also mail any donations to
83 range road, Epsom, nh 03234
Thank you so much❤️
