📢Personnel Promotions: Big News 🎉
🧑🚒The City of Sandy Springs, Georgia: City News is proud to announce that Fire Chief Keith Sanders has been promoted to Assistant City Manager for Infrastructure and Capital Program Delivery. Division Chief Jesse Bernard has also been promoted to Interim Fire Chief. Both are effective today, May 21, 2026.
🙏Fire Chief Sanders’ career in fire service spans 47 years, and although he is trading in his fire protection gear for a suit and tie, I look forward to continuing to draw on his wisdom, experience, and expertise. Our Fire Department is in good hands under Interim Fire Chief Bernard’s leadership.
👏Congratulations to these wonderful leaders!

We have been receiving a LOT of questions about e-bikes. This class would be a great place to find some answers (in addition to reaching out to your Councilmember).
Thinking about getting an e-bike — or already riding one? Join the Sandy Springs Police Department for an E-Bike Safety Class on June 4 at 6:00 PM in the Sandy Springs Police Department Community Room.
What will be covered:
• The different types of e-bikes and Georgia laws
• Safety tips and smart riding habits
• E-dirt bikes and mopeds
• The risks that come with unsafe riding
Whether you’re new to e-bikes, have a teen rider at home, or just want to brush up on safety, this is a great chance to learn how to ride smart and stay safe.

🗳️ Back at it again, Georgia! 🍑
💵Budget season has arrived, but what does that mean for Sandy Springs, Georgia: City News?📄
🙋A core duty of the Sandy Springs City Council is to pass a yearly budget. Our City's operating budget (including yearly capital improvement projects) is just over $150 million, but including longer term capital projects, we manage about $1 billion.😲
👀Please watch this short video explaining the budget process including how the public and taxpayers can influence the process.🎥
🗓️Our first public workshop on the 2027 budget was held this past Tuesday, May 5. The remaining public workshops will be held May 19 and May 26, both at 2:00 p.m. Public hearings will be held on June 2 and June 16, both at 6:00 p.m. All meetings are held at City Hall or available to stream at https://www.sandyspringsga.gov/stream.⏩

⚡️Energizing day around the City of Sandy Springs, Georgia: City News and the Perimeter region! What did we accomplish?‼️
🏢Started the morning at this year's "Envision Perimeter" event by Perimeter ATL where business and community leaders, the entire Sandy Springs City Council, Dunwoody Mayor Lynn Deutsch, Fulton County Commissioners Dana Barrett and Bridget Thorne, and countless others from the Leadership Perimeter and Perimeter Chamber networks gathered to discuss how to move the Perimeter region forward.⏩
💵Then dove into budget season with the first of our public Budget Workshop sessions. More to come as we work on the budget over the next six weeks. Stay tuned for my "Budget 101" video.💰
🤝Now about to end the day with a regularly scheduled Work Session and City Council meeting where we will discuss the plan for construction for 🚒Fire Stations 1, 3, & 4, 🚶➡️vote to approve a construction contract to build a sidepath along Roberts Drive in the northern part of the City,🛣️vote to approve the project list for the upcoming T-SPLOST vote this fall (you should vote in favor of it), and so much more! 💪

🇯🇲 🇺🇸 I had a special opportunity to greet His Excellency Major General (Ret'd) Antony Anderson, the Jamaican Ambassador to the United States, as he visited the Atlanta area over the last few days. Thank you to longtime Sandy Springs, Georgia: City News resident and Leadership Perimeter alum, Jamaican Honorary Consul Dr. Elaine Bryan, for hosting the meeting. We exchanged stories, spoke about shared opportunity, and more. Thank you for taking the time to meet with local leaders and hear about the great things happening in our City!

In this political and primary elections season, today was a reminder that the work of local government does not end with elections and (mostly) does not happen on Facebook or Instagram. The work happens when dedicated staff like we have at the City of Sandy Springs, Georgia: City News engage in thoughtful discussion on how to move our community forward and increase the quality of life for our residents. Special shout out and THANK YOU to staff for a great meeting today with our Public Works Department to talk about District 6 sidewalks, T-SPLOST projects, and more.
