Toy Adaptation Program - TAP
Engineering students learn to apply problem-solving and technical skills to adapt toys so that children with special needs are able to use them.
The mission of the Toy Adaptation Program (TAP) at The Ohio State University is to provide hands-on educational opportunities to engineering students, while making a positive societal impact through the modification of electronic toys. The toys are then donated to toy lending libraries or directly to families. By developing this connection between academia and the community, TAP strives to address social issues through experiential learning.

We hope that everyone is staying safe during these difficult times of COVID-19. While our spring TAP events have been postponed, we have created a page on our website dedicated to adapting toys at home! The “At-Home Adapting” page provides information about adaptable toys, necessary materials, and step-by-step adapting instructions. Check out the page here and share it with anyone else who may be interested:

TAP had many amazing events last week! On Thursday, AEP employees adapted toys at the OSU airport. The Diversity, Outreach, and Inclusion Office partnered with TAP to host a workshop for rising junior and senior high school students on Friday. And the TAP interns attended The Science Accessibility Conference this past Saturday to learn about how STEM can be made more inclusive.
