Traffic is up. The phone still isn't ringing.

If that's you, here's the surprising part: the SEO is probably working.

Getting found on Google is one of the best investments a local business can make. It compounds, it lasts, and it puts you in front of people who are looking for exactly what you do, right now. Worth every dollar.

But getting found and getting called are two different jobs. What happens in the eleven seconds after someone lands on your site decides which one you get:

📱 Is your phone number tappable, or do they have to pinch and zoom? ⭐ Do they see proof you're trusted before they see your services list? 💬 Is there a way to reach you that isn't a form nobody answers? 🕐 What happens at 7pm on a Saturday, when they actually need you?

A site that turns 200 visitors into zero calls will turn 400 visitors into zero calls. Those visitors aren't wasted — they're arriving somewhere that can't catch them.

Fix that first, and the traffic you're already paying for starts paying you back. Then go get more of it.

"How many Google reviews do I need?"

I searched "HVAC repair San Ramon" to find out, and counted what Google actually put in the map pack:

⭐ #1 — 1,100 reviews ⭐ #2 — 57 reviews ⭐ #3 — 160 reviews

Read that again. The business sitting in second place has 57 reviews. The one below it has 160.

Nearly three times the reviews, and it still ranks lower.

So reviews clearly count for something — the business with 1,100 of them is parked at the top. But they are not a leaderboard. Google is also weighing how close you are to the person searching, how complete and active your profile is, how established your website is, and whether your site actually says anything about the service being searched for.

That last part is the opening. If you're trying to break into the pack, you don't have to out-review someone with a ten-year head start. You have to be better on the pieces they stopped maintaining.

Here's how to run this search for your own town, and how to read what you find 👇

Here's an uncomfortable number: about half the calls a local business gets go unanswered.

And the customer who couldn't reach you almost never leaves a voicemail. 85% of them don't. They just call the next business on the list — and that business gets a job that could've been yours.

The research is blunt about the window, too. Respond within five minutes and you're roughly 9x more likely to actually connect. Wait an hour and you're mostly calling someone who's already booked.

The good news: the fix isn't hiring a receptionist. It's a system that answers when you can't — because you're under a sink, on a roof, or eating dinner with your family.

I wrote up how it works 👇

AI is such a hot topic right now, but… most people don’t really know how to use it.

Let alone, make a living from it.

I’d been getting emails from Dan Wardrope for a while but not reading them. I didn’t unsubscribe because I knew he had a ton of value to offer, but honestly, I kept ignoring them to stay focused.

Then he sent one with a subject line that finally got me to open it, and I’m glad I did – everything he was saying made sense.

Dan’s book, The Instant AI Agency, lays out how agencies can use AI to turn old leads into real sales, and you don’t even need a heavy tech background to make it work. He’s applying some of the same strategies that hedge fund pros like Ray Dalio use to generate serious wealth. But here, it’s about using a business’s existing lead database, powered by AI and SMS, to revive those old leads and start generating new revenue.

What’s great is that Dan’s approach is straightforward and easy for anyone to implement. If you’re in digital marketing or have your own business, this could give you a real edge without needing to become a tech geek or an AI expert.

If this sounds like something you’d want to check out, Dan’s offering his book for $1 this week.

By the way, this isn’t an affiliate post; I just thought some of you might benefit from the insights. It’s a big world with tons of opportunity, and getting started with AI early could be a real game-changer.
