The Control I Couldn't Let Go Of

There was a grief inside me that never got to complete itself.
A sadness. A fear. A pain that had been frozen in time.
For years, I thought my struggle with intimacy was about s*x. I thought it was about desire, performance, or figuring out what was "wrong" with me.
But underneath it all was something much deeper.
There was a loop of unprocessed trauma still trying to finish what it never got the chance to finish.
During s*xual abuse, control was taken away from me.
My body learned that letting go wasn't safe.
My nervous system learned that vulnerability could be dangerous.
So even years later, in a loving relationship with someone I trusted deeply, I found myself holding on. Controlling. Monitoring. Thinking. Managing.
Because somewhere inside, there was a belief:
If I let go of control, what do I have?
What I didn't realize was that the part of me holding on wasn't broken.
It was trying to protect me.
The mind often gets blamed for overthinking, but many times it is simply doing its best to keep us safe from feelings that were too overwhelming to feel when they first happened.
Healing wasn't about forcing myself to surrender.
It wasn't about pushing harder or trying to be more s*xual.
It was about creating enough safety for my body to finally feel what it never got to feel.
To let the grief move.
To let the sadness breathe.
To let the frozen parts of me finally thaw.
Because trauma isn't asking to be fixed...Sometimes it's simply asking to be felt.
And on the other side of that feeling wasn't losing control.
It was finding myself.
