Rule Botanica
Hello! Rule Botanica is Tom & Kisitina Venegas. We started beekeeping March, 2021 in our back garden here in San Leandro, California.
We are in constant awe of these small but Mighty Pollinators!🌸🐝
Swarms are ALWAYS an EPIC spectacle in the making and equally scintillating experience to be close to one, partially due to the most effective communication between thousands of bees acting as one unbreakable family. It’s nothing short of remarkable🤯
Taken on one of many swarm days last week.
We may as well put on our bee suits on a.m to p.m these abnormally warm days! Every day of this week there’s been swarm activity and here’s swarm #5 (we think). Have to say it’s a true blessing to get new swarm of bees ❤️🐝🐝
It’s always such a treat to hear the new Queen Bee piping announcing her glorious and praise worthy presence to her attentive colony! Plus it’s nothing short of amazing and adorable❤️
We got that swarm!! They took to the bait hive and it is PACKED!!
After much shaking, these amazing bees show their resilience and determination to stick to this tree for dear life! We will see later today if they think our bait hive is worthy of their presence!
🐝
Watch this SWARM DROP! There was no easy way for this swarm to be captured unless we had a bee vacuum!
It is a Lovely Day for a Swarm!
Around this time of year my ears are super attentive and listening highly attuned to that wonderful mass buzzing sound of a lively swarm of bees. There’s nothing else quite like it 🐝🐝🐝❣️
Stay tuned for other parts of this video…
Spotted a Valley Carpenter Bee (Xylocopa sonorina) or “golden carpenter bee” or “teddy bear bee” 🧸🐝💛.
This is a male, distinctly golden in color and very, very fuzzy, which makes them pretty much a flying teddy bear!!
They’re the largest bees found in California and the southwestern United States.
Even more lovable, they’re docile and can’t sting. They are important pollinators.
Installing a new bee colony at the local school today.
Getting to school was a bit of a rough adventure but they finally made it all there safe and sound, except for Tom who got a present from one of the bees 🐝😬
A NEW group of bees from who knows where, found not 1 but 3 empty hives to make their new home!! Thanks to our “intentional neglect” there in heaven! Choices, choices!!😂🐝🏠🏠🏠
Our hive had to move location and clear the way for a big cleanup of our poor tree house! Thanks for the memories Tree House!
