💪 We're so proud of the Jovenes youth group who went to City Council and boldly advocated for what our community and young people need--- restorative justice, counseling, and public spaces where they can gather and create.....not criminalization.

When we unite our families across generations, we have the power to change our communities and challenge the system!

Shout out to SV De-Bug, East San Jose PEACE Partnership, San Jo Brown Berets, SOMOS staff + leaders, and all others who came out to support!

Please listen to this podcast about how Milwaukee created a city-wide movement against violence.

The tragic Gilroy mass shooting reinforces the need to build community-wide movements to stop all forms of gun violence and create peace, and highlights the need for communities to work together to understand and address their specific risks.

Cities across the US are developing comprehensive “peace plans” to reduce and prevent gun violence. In PI’s new podcast, Lisa Fujie Parks interviews Reggie Moore, Director of the Milwaukee Office of Violence Prevention. Listen to Reggie describe how the Milwaukee Blueprint for Peace was created with leadership from communities most directly impacted by violence, and learn why and how it addresses the structural roots of violence.

“When people ask ‘what is the cost of prevention?’ My response is, ‘what is the value of your life?’ If we can invest in stopping a young person from being unintentionally shot or a mother from being unnecessarily killed, or any other form of violence that harms an individual, a neighborhood, a school, a community, I can’t put a price tag on that. But what I do know is that we have not equitably and fairly invested in prevention to the degree that we’ve invested in cops, cages, and corpses. What we want to see as a community is a city, a county, a state that is committed to investing in prevention instead of pain.”
