Bike to Shop Day

Bike to Shop Day is an annual program that encourages people to ride bicycles for everyday transportation as part of National Bike Month. Like Bike to Work Day, Bike to Shop Day is an annual program that encourages people to bicycle for transportation as part of National Bike Month celebrations.

This day is a one-day promotion to encourage people to shop by bike, usually an easier trip than riding to work. We are asking local merchants to participate by encouraging individuals to arrive to their location by bicycle by providing an incentive or promotional offer. This can consist of a discount on any particular item(s) or a freebee of some sort. It is left to the discretion of the merchant

Na bicykli do obchodu

We are pleased to announce that an amazing group in the Trnava Region of Slovakia (Europe) was been organizing a successful Bike to Shop event since 2013! They have received support from the European Cyclists Federation for their great work. For more information about the Slovak Bike to Shop Day (Na bicykli do obchodu) see here:

Similarly to us, they are looking to grow their Bike to Shop Day network and were happy to find out that another region across the globe was doing a similar thing. In lieu of this newly established relationship, we are asking bicycling shoppers to use #BikeTheGlobe to build a global community!

Do you know of any other regions that have an organized #BikeToShopDay event? If so, please comment below. Na bicykli do obchodu je projekt, ktorého hlavným cieľom je motivovať ľudí aby namiesto motorových dopravných prostriedkov využívali na nakupovanie bicykle. 04/15/2016

Looking Beyond Commuter Cycling

"By appealing to those who may never bike to work – but would be willing to pedal shorter distances to run errands – we could start “normalizing” the act of cycling, and seeing ridership numbers rivaling other successful cycling cities" Cycling to work or school is a commendable act. Each and every member of our family does it on a daily basis, providing regular physical activity that has lead to fewer sick days, and an increase in productivity and overall health. But over the years, we’ve come to realize Vancouver has an unnatural…
