Smooth stovetops use coils to heat the electric burners, but the coils and electricity are located beneath the black cooking surface. They can be pricey to replace if the glass or ceramic top cracks.

Moreover, smooth stovetops may look like sleek modern decor, but they have some cons. One is that they take longer for your pans to heat up and cook food because the coils aren’t in direct contact.

Coil Type Cooktops

Coil cooktops are the sturdy, traditional version of electric cooktops. Unlike a smooth top range, the heating coils come into direct contact with cookware. These cooktops require more effort to clean, because spills and stains can be difficult to access.

DUAL FUEL STOVES

Dual fuel stoves combine a gas stovetop with an electric oven, bringing the best of both worlds to your kitchen. They are considered a premium option so may come with a higher price tag. Some benefits of dual fuel stoves include:

GAS STOVE

Gas stoves are for traditionalists who are loyal fans. One reason is that gas stoves have an open flame and provide instant heat that is transferred directory to the pot. It’s also one of the more budget-conscious, efficient stove options when compared to an electric stove or more advanced heating technologies.

Gas stoves run on propane in rural areas or natural gas for fuel and users increase and control the level of heat. These types of stoves have powerful flames.

Some downsides of using a gas stove include the tedious task of cleaning them and the smell of the fuel.

Portable

When most people picture a cooktop they think of a large, multi-heating element item that is installed permanently in the kitchen. While this is the most common type of cooktop that you can buy, you can also buy smaller, portable ones that will allow you to cook in a hotel room or to add an extra heating element to your home kitchen if you need additional space to cook. These generally only come with one or two heating elements on them and are either electric or induction.

Downdraft Extractor

If you do not like the way that having a range hood or a fan looks in your kitchen then you will want to consider installing a downdraft cooktop. These have a ventilation system that is built directly into the cooktop itself so that you don’t have to rely on a bulky hood to extract the steam and smoke that is produced when you are cooking.

There is a small vent either along the back of the cooktop or between the burners that will suck the steam and smoke away from your pots and pans and prevent it from rising to the ceiling. Not only does this eliminate the need for a bulky range hood that can take up a lot of space in your kitchen and be a bit of an eyesore, but it will free up the space above your cooktop for a pot rack, cabinets, or just extra empty space.

Electric stoves

Unlike gas-powered stoves, these units use electric currents rather than flames to activate heating elements that undertake the cooking process.
There are typically four independently controlled burners that deliver “120 volts of alternating current … that travels down each leg” to produce heat, according to Hunker writer Cathy Habas.
When the current flows in the cooking element, heat is produced. While circuitry for all electric stoves is similar, there are differences in the cooking surface.

Make it really easy on yourself when you want to see the time by choosing a cooktop that has an LED display. Rather than trying to read the time and having problems, when you choose one that uses LED then you can easily see the time from almost anywhere in the room, no matter how dark it is in your house. When you cook you will release a lot of steam and smoke into the air of your kitchen and it’s important that you remove this to make sure that not only is your air clean and safe to breathe but that you don’t have any problems with your kitchen overheating or smoke setting off your fire alarm.

For a cooktop that will heat up faster than any other type, you will want to buy an induction cooktop. These come with a hefty price tag but also have a number of benefits. Instead of the whole surface of the cooktop getting hot the way that it does with a gas or electric cooktop, the heat produced by an induction cooktop is transferred directly to the cooking pot.

Electric cooktops are very popular, easy to find, and generally fairly inexpensive, making them a great choice for anyone who is looking for a new stove and is on a budget. They have the additional benefit of being very easy to clean, no matter if you opt for a cooktop that has coils or one that is smooth-top.
