Learn how to massage your rotator cuff to reduce shoulder pain. Earlier today, we posted a video educating you on these two rotator cuff muscles (Infraspinatus and Teres Minor)… go back and watch that video to learn more about this muscle, what it does, and the kind of pain it can create when it is weak/tight.
For the massage, use a lacrosse, tennis, or golf ball. A tennis ball will not be as intense as the others. When doing this massage, it is common to feel pain down the arm. This is a sign that the muscle is very tight and weak… keep doing this massage and, over time, this “referral pain” will reduce. Make sure to breathe and don’t massage it so hard and forcefully that you are unable to relax. Keep it gentle. When you massage any muscle too hard and it hurts too much, your body will most likely guard, reducing the effectiveness of the massage.
Next week, we will be posting some videos on how to strengthen these two rotator cuff muscles. The video we posted yesterday is also a great exercise to strengthen the shoulder blade AND the infraspinatus/teres minor muscles.

Repost!
Sit at a desk? Work on a computer? Stretching out your chest and pecs can help to combat some of that tightness and rounded forward posture. The way you DO the stretch will impact its effectiveness. Many of you are not getting the most out of your stretches!
A doorway is a great spot to execute this stretch. Just pretend the rig in the photo is a doorframe. What we see a lot of people do is stretch in that same rolled forward posture with the shoulders. This isn’t really giving you the best stretch. Instead, focus on rotating the armpit forward, as in the top photo. Imagine you are trying to show someone in front of you your armpit.
Try this and play around with how it feels both ways. Body awareness will help you greatly in preventing injuries and ensuring longevity in your athletic pursuits! Compare the two, stretch with your hand at different heights also and see how that hits different spots in the muscles.
This is a great way to break up your day if you work on a computer or sit at a desk. Do a few sets of these on each side and mix in a few of our upper back strengthening exercises and you will be on your way to looking like a normal person!

Hey Folks! Here’s a little clip from our YouTube channel of a demonstration on how to work with Dowager’s Hump, a common condition we see in these smartphone laden days. The intention of this work is to facilitate the closing of the vertebral facets through passive movement of the head and neck and specific tissue work around the spine.
-
From an SI perspective, working on Dowager’s Hump also entails looking at the anterior part of the body. What areas are now short and tight (‘scrunched’) in relation to the flexion happening around the hump area? Pecotralis, diaphragm, and abdominal core area come to mind. 🙂

at least 50% of my clients self diagnosed their hip pains as sciatica.
Do you really have sciatica? We hear this term thrown around from people a lot, but what they are experiencing is pain that is localized to one area of the lower body. Sciatica feels like an electrical burn that originates deep above the glute and traces down the leg to the toes. Sciatica is usually the result of a disc injury in the lower vertebrae and the disc injury is the result of poor movement patterns and lack of body awareness. The video shows how a disc injury creates the symptom of sciatica.
I experienced sciatica down both of my legs for 2 years as a result of my disc herniation and disc bulge. I had no idea how to move my body at the time. 3 surgeons wanted to cut my herniation out, but I knew that wouldn’t solve the issue. I spent 2 years exploring my body movements and improving my body awareness to allow my herniation to heal. I have not had pain in my lower back for the last 4 years now. Every single video we post will help you recover from any injury that you have, regardless of the body part that we focus on.
There are some instances where sciatic-like symptoms can be created from a tight piriformis, hip muscles, or hamstring tightness. This is called Pseudosciatica and it feels a little different. If you are unaware of how your pelvis, glutes, and feet work together, any of the above muscles can compensate and cause the some pains to throb down PART of the leg, but these pains don’t feel like an intense pulling, burning, and electrifying sensation. Sciatica has a similar feeling of putting your hand in an electrical socket or having nerve pain in your teeth that shoots up into your jaw.
Our program is one of the most streamlined ways for you to recover from any of your injures. It will require work, patience, and a willingness to challenge your mind. As a result, you can avoid your surgery, pills, and the fear that you will never be able to do what you love again.
