It's World Sickle Cell Day! Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited blood disorder that affects red blood cells. The condition gets its name because normal soft and round red blood cells become hard and "sickle shaped" in individuals with SCD, and this can cause anemia, pain, and many other problems. Huntington’s disease (HD) is caused by a small section of the HTT gene that is repeated too many times in a person’s DNA, which makes the gene unable to do its job in the body correctly.
