Paper Tacos
Paper Tacos, are greeting cards rooted in Latino culture and traditions. A first-generation college graduate, a visual designer by trade, illustrator by heart.
My name is Jesús Ruvalcaba, Mexican-American son of farm working parents from Castroville, California. My goal is to bring a little Mexican flavor to the greeting card industry and spread some smiles along the way. I take my experiences growing up in a Mexican household and convert them to witty ingredients for each "paper taco" greeting card. I hope you like my greeting cards as much as I enjoy creating them. People think creativity is about having good ideas.
Most of the time it's about collecting ideas, forgetting about them, and then having one randomly attack you while you're doing something else.
Over the next few weeks I'll be sharing how new Paper Tacos cards and products go from random thought → finished product. 🌮💌
What's the weirdest place you've ever gotten an idea?"

I had such a great time speaking with the Stevenson School Spanish class about Paper Tacos® and my experience as a creative entrepreneur.
I shared how the business started, some of the ups and downs, and what it means to build something rooted in culture, creativity, and community.
Afterward, the students sent me these beautiful handwritten notes...almost like greeting cards themselves. 🥹
It meant a lot to know they enjoyed the visit. Grateful for the opportunity to share my story and hopefully inspire the next generation of creatives and entrepreneurs.
Thank you, Stevenson School. ❤️

Never thought the kid from the labor camps in Castroville would one day come back to his old high school to talk about his career.
Class of 1996. 🩶🖤🦅
I got invited back to share my story, from growing up in a low-income household, to becoming a designer, college professor, entrepreneur, and building Paper Tacos.
I talked about real stuff too:
The struggles.
The self doubt.
The pros and cons of creative careers.
What entrepreneurship actually looks like behind the scenes.
But mostly, I wanted students to know that where you start doesn’t have to define where you end up.
Full circle moment for me. ❤️🌮

Not every yes is the right... Yes. We tested Paper Tacos in two stores at the same time. El super...Now we're in 70 locations. And Grocery Outlet. No movement. Same product, different customers. I even dropped the price from $4.99 to $2.99 for the test. Still didn't hit. Some shoppers are looking for deals and others are looking for connection build for the right one.
