Lots of unexpected at this year’s Smoky Hill River Festival and I loved every part of it.

Pic 1 - I carved a handful of whistles as a last-minute idea. They sold out immediately, so I spent all 3 days carving 30+ more because they kept selling faster than I could make them.

Pic 2 - Less unexpected, but I love when First Treasures recipients bring the items I contributed back to my booth for a sticker and a picture.

Pic 3-5 - Also not totally unexpected, Saturday night storms destroyed my cheap tent. That’s ok though, because only the frame was destroyed and friends let me borrow their tent tot finish out a great weekend.

Pic 6-7 - These cool dudes worked on trading up items to get the most high-value item they could. They started with me, trading a stress ball for a gnome ornament, and ended with a glass sculpture and bracelet. I loved every time they came back to my booth to share their progress.

Pic 8 - I always try to trade at shows, and this year I made new friends with Grassy Creek Brooms and got these great hand brooms for my studio. I was also able to figure out that I got a small broom, that was most likely made by their grandparents, at the First Treasures tent when I was a kid in the 90s. I can’t wait to see them next year.

UPDATE: I have a tent!

Hi friends, any chance anyone in Salina has a tent I could borrow for just tomorrow? It’s been my best River Fest yet, and I’d love to finish out the weekend.

Side note: if you’d really like to pity me, like real sad boy stuff, you could maybe come out and help buy the rest of my stuff. You know, just a cool thing you might want to do.

Need a break from the storm cleanup? Still without power? Community CraftHaus has a FREE open craft night tonight! Normally, this night is focused on fiber arts, but with the recent storms and hardships in Salina, we thought we would open this one up to makers of all types.

Bring something to work and maybe an extra chair if you have one. This event is open to all ages. We also have an open kids craft area for anyone who may need to bring their kids along.

Remember, we have an open Community Craft Club night tonight. It’s free to join, so bring something to work on and enjoy a calm couple hours with other makers.
