Just a reminder... it is ABSOLUTELY NORMAL for your baby to "still" be nursing at night. It is NOT a "bad habit" to nurse on cue, day and night, as often as necessary.
Nursing your baby to sleep, and back to sleep as needed, is biologically normal, healthy, and instinctive mothering.

This is amazing
Baby + Me Yoga is designed with you, baby's caregiver, in mind.
Life with a baby is full, isn't it? You may have a difficult time finding childcare or organizing your schedule to make it in for a class, so we've come up with Baby + Me Yoga: a 45 minute power yoga class modified to allow you to practice while either holding your baby or with them beside you in their carseat or on a blanket. We've scheduled out a 60 minute slot to allow for getting situated and connected with each other, the 45 minute class itself and a nice savasana.
Baby + Me Yoga is intended for babies who are not yet walking. The room will be a pleasant 75 degrees (not too hot for them, but you'll get a sweat on). Please, no food/drink other than water in the studio. We suggest arriving with a freshly changed and fed baby for the most positive experience possible, AND, it is a welcoming and supportive environment where you can pause to feed/change/soothe your baby at any time- we're in this together!
Because we are in the beginning phase of this offering, you'll notice classes pop up on the schedule at various times- we can't wait to have you!
Regular class passes apply.

Our bodies are pretty amazing! πͺ

Walk into a room while I am supporting a birth and you might think that I am just sitting there doing nothing. I wonβt be talking. I wonβt be touching the client. I wonβt be using anything in my bag.
So what am I doing exactly?
πͺ Watching momβs breathing and sometimes breathing loudly alongside her to remind her to slow down her breath
πͺ Scanning momβs body during the contraction to make sure that she isnβt holding any tension
πͺ Monitoring the temperature and lighting to create the peaceful environment that she desires
πͺ Calculating how long it has been since she emptied her bladder
πͺ Thinking about how long she has been in her current position and thinking about the next position that she might try
πͺ Timing contractions to see if they are longer, stronger and closer together
πͺ Thinking about when mom and her partner last had a snack
πͺ Reviewing her preferences to make sure that everything is going according to her plan
πͺ Giving the couple space to connect on an intimate level (allowing for oxytocin) and/or guiding the partner to be the lead support
πͺ Updating notes and capturing labor flow
Sometimes just being fully present is enough. Sometimes just knowing I am there in close proximity is all mom needs to be able to relax and focus on what she needs to do. Sometimes just holding space for them in an unbiased manner allows for a noticeable shift in the energy of the room.
And the list goes onβ¦.

Breastfeeding is not only about the milk; it's about the love, the connection, and the bond between mother and child. π€±πΎπ
Beautiful breastfeeding artwork by

As a first-time mom, I was so worried that I wouldn't know the true onset of labor. Even when everyone told me, "Don't worry, you will know."
Yet I jumped at every Braxton hicks and prodromal contraction. Making it hard for me to relax. To enjoy or at least be present in my last moments of pregnancy.
So here is a cheat sheet on whether it is true, early labor, or just your body letting you know that you're getting warmed up for the big event.

Many moms think they should be pumping 4-8oz per session, but that can be so far from the truth for those of us who are nursing AND pumping.
On average a mother who is breastfeeding AND pumping is pumping anywhere from .5-2oz from both breasts combined. When sheβs away from her baby, on average she will pump anywhere from 3-4.5oz from both breasts combined.
γ°οΈSo why can some mothers pump more?
Mothers who pump more milk may have an oversupply, respond better to their pump, or may have been able to increase pump output with practice. (Breast massage and hand expression combined with pumping can help maximize the amount of milk you pump each session and increase your overall milk supply)
It is also VERY common to have MORE milk than your baby needs in the early weeks. Around 6-12 weeks you may go into panic mode because you *think* your supply dropped, but really it just regulated to what your baby needs.
γ°οΈWhy does my milk supply vary so much?
If you are exclusively pumping OR pumping part time your output will probably vary throughout the day. You may get 5 ounces during your morning session, and only 2-3 ounces during your afternoon/evening sessions. This is normal and it is due to circadian shifts. This does NOT necessarily mean you have a low milk supply, plus the breast pump is really not a true indicator of your actual milk supply so please never just rely on that.
γ°οΈSo how do I know if Iβm making enough?
If you really need to know where your supply stands, you will want to look for the total oz pumped for the day, and compare that to the oz that your baby is taking in.
Most babies take somewhere between 20-35oz of breast milk per day. (Depends on babyβs age). Some moms make more or less. Ideally you would want to pump as much as your baby takes FOR THE DAY.
Remember/ Your breasts are never truly empty (even if they feel like it). Your body continuously is making milk⦠as long as you are telling it to by either nursing or pumping.

Donβt get me wrong, we take other insurance too, but we want potential clients to know that we enthusiastically take all forms of Oregon Heath Plan.
OHP covers your prenatal care with us no matter where youβre planning to have your baby, and it covers home birth and birth center birth for moms who are low risk/medically boring.
Questions about OHP? Want to make an appointment? Give us a call at 541-928-1002.

The sooner we book in your pregnancy the longer you have me π and it guarantees you a spot! Only taking cash/gift certificates at the moment. OHP is estimated to be taken by end of February but not 100% on the exact time yet. Message or email me to book a free consultation. I serve Eugene to Salem Oregon as a birth doula.
