We think back warmly on our sister-program The Catalyst, and how and where we were changing lives in 2019. We will be back to this noble mission soon.

Catalyst history students have spent this week studying the rise of the N***s. Nobody better to hammer home this history than Dr. Andy Wiest.

Why Regenerative Travel Should Be Your Company's Next People Play

Why Regenerative Travel Should Be Your Company's Next People Play A recent Deloitte study shows that 98% of CEO's view the mental wellness of their employees as a major problem today. Given that other studies show 70% of the workforce has experienced pressing symptoms of burnout in the last year, there's good reason for the C-suite to worry. Where burnout lives an...

Four years ago, our #globalizedu family was absorbing the election of 2016 in Lyons, France. It was an exhausted and confused time. We boarded a TGV bound and for Paris and then the Loire Valley. One of the last things we’d done on election night was to climb up and down a huge set of stone steps to burn down everyone’s nervous energy. Our exhausted and slightly defiant 3 year old saddled up to a stair that was tagged with the phrase “tomorrow begins today.” And so it does. #onwisconsin #goblue #keystonestate #sabatigo

Lisa and her husband Pat have been growing cold weather grapes on their North Dakota vineyard/farm for more than a decade. Their location in a terrible Covid fills Lisa with dread as does what she calls “the total abdication of integrity by our governor and our president where leadership and listening to science are concerned.” Surrounded by Trump voters, Lisa proudly flies her Biden and democratic down ballot flags and signs all around her property. “Science is at the heart of our business. Decency and dignity are our pillars as farmers and citizens. These pillars don’t topple just because people yell louder than we do.” #sabatigo #northdakota #mindfulness #perspective #entrepreneurship

Josie told us she isn’t “front of house people.” But there she was extolling the virtues of sea salt truffles to us just like she did when Secretary Clinton walked into her shop back in 2016. “We are independent and stubborn here. 2016 was close. But don’t think we are fools in New Hampshire. This isn’t about to be a swing state for Trump. Our crabby game is strong. Our hate game isn’t.” #livefree #liveriveted #camping #airstream

Joy has been a park ranger in Michigan and Wisconsin her whole career. “I love being outdoors, I love nature and I love people who love nature,” she told us as she gave us extra firewood for a cold night on the shores of Lake Michigan. She also warned us that Covid was circulating wildly all around the UP and Wisconsin areas bordering her park. “Anybody without a mask, just don’t say a word and come to me. It’ll be handled right away.” When we built an extra big fire that night we talked about something she said she used as her Covid mantra: “I see the families and hope that their kids will love these views and the way it feels to be excited together about all this wonder of our natural world. Those children can love this all better than we have.” We left the UP hoping Joy is right. And we recall as Election Day approaches what she said about 3 November: “please vote our future.” #climatechange #sabatigo #michiganstateparks

Mary and Larry have been camp hosts on Lake Erie’s Maumee Bay for 26 years. They raised their kids here every summer and have relished meeting generations of campers from all over the USA. What they’ve seen happen to their great lake during their time as stewards is no myth. “It’s climate change and everyone who isn’t afraid of science knows it. Algae problems and huge dead zones in the lake are closing beaches and killing this gorgeous environment,” Mary says. The damning report on their lake’s I’ll health was written by a team of scientists who crossed 12 federal agencies with their expertise. Larry was near venomous with outrage about what Trump said when asked locally about the climate report: “The president said ‘I don’t believe it.’ And then his press secretary added “it’s not based on fact.” #bidenharris2020 #sabatigo #ohiostateparks

Thousands of cherished teachers retired this fall because of Covid. When we think about what propelled most of us to succeed in life, we recall teachers like my cousin, who taught lucky kids for years in NYC public schools in Brooklyn and then Manhattan. Now she and a massive number of gifted educators like her won’t be returning to classrooms again. Because our country’s chaotic response to Covid left them having to choose between personal safety and work. While wonderful that our own kids still get the benefit of yard camping, front porch art lessons and amazing hikes with my cousin, your kids won’t and that’s an immeasurable loss. #bidenharris2020 #sabatigo

Port Clinton has been Marty’s home for 86 years. We met her in front of her post office, on her way to yoga. A former drum majorette, Marty knows that her town and the cities along Lake Erie are full of Trump voters. She wonders why. “You couldn’t have the man to dinner and not fear he’d insult you as host or the other guests,” she told us. She also talked about her Ohio neighbors who have seen their lives fall to pieces under Covid. “We all have grandchildren and great grandchildren we can’t see anymore. We can’t even see our grown children. And every friend of mine has family people who have lost jobs.” Marty welcomed us to the shores of Lake Erie and said she was embarrassed that we had to see “her place” like is is today, when everything is shuttered and ‘for rent’ signs hang everywhere. She said none of her friends can say anything “great” about what’s happened in Port Clinton since 2016.

Travel and learning are always political. Especially so now, when Covid has totally altered how we think about either. For us, the last few weeks have been a “swing state” tour of sorts, as we’ve been rolling through and camping in places like Erie, PA. Folks whose votes last time went red haven’t had easy answers for us as we’ve talked about the impact of Covid on our family business and the school lives of our kids. Because all of their businesses and kids and grandkids are being impacted too. Erie is supposed to be part of the firewall for Trump. But staying there and talking with folks and walking just outside of town to where the immaculate farms are tended so lovingly, we found signs of great creativity and billowing proof of good things to come. #eriepaphotographer #camping #sabatigo #bidenharris2020 #airstream

David’s passions are his Miami Dolphins and Delaware State Parks. He has camped at all of them and been a camp host at many of them. He had this to say about his personal politics: “You want to defend a Trump vote to me as a black man? Go ahead and try. He hates more openly than other people, I will give him that. But he hates from the soul out and it’s a disgrace to every human being.” Then he took us around the little store he manages for campers and returned to politics: “Every shelf in here was empty like these all spring and most of summer. You still get runs on cleaners and paper stuff even now. That’s the glory of the Trump vote right there on my empty shelves and it’s shameful.” #delaware #liveriveted #bidenharris2020 #miamidolphins

Seeking out visionary and passion-driven people is always something we do when we travel with students or clients. The same holds true when we have Daisy the Airstream as our base camp. The entrepreneurship and sustainability in evidence at Sentinel Alpacas near Bozeman are jaw dropping. How else to explain a family of Boeing engineers who become super successful Montana ranchers? Plus these innovative ranchers and their gentle beasts were willing to share their pasture with us for a night of camping. #alpacas #sentinelalpacaranch #liveriveted #sabatigo

Sabatigo like The The Catalyst is being built on a travel and learning platform. A key difference between the two brands is Sabatigo’s focus on post college clients who seek to engage with mindfulness and wellness as they learn and travel. Maggie runs our logistics and operations for both brands. To keep her own personal balance, she runs 5 miles most days whether we are home or using Daisy the Airstream as our base. #runningmotivation #mindfulness #worklifebalance

Staying connected while traveling is a tech issue and a human one. Our students know this and so do our professors. Now more than before, our kids do too. Doing first grade remotely is a heightened experience of the connection challenge. Assuaging those frustrations are many things. Including seeing dear family and friends as we roll along, and enjoying the generous bounty of the Covid-produced longing to take care of dear ones and to be taken care of. Fresh cinnamon and apple donuts came to our trailer and us one very chilly autumn morning in NH. So many thanks.

Bill told us he was an orderly in Dallas when Kennedy was brought to his hospital floor and died. Disillusioned by that to his core, he hasn’t voted in a presidential election since. We talked for awhile about what’s at stake this year. Both he and his wife are evangelicals. He agreed to vote this one year and for it to be a Biden/Harris vote because as he said: “We have to have dignity and decency again. Your children have the light of the good and the right in their eyes. That’s our future. Not all the hate we hear everyday.” Our trailer was parked by Bill’s. We were waved to heartily as we rolled away later in the morning. #sabatigo

When Covid is resolved through new leadership, vigilance and a vaccine, we will be breathtakingly excited to launch Sabatigo and restart The Catalyst. But what about the other businesses we are seeing in towns all across the country that have been shuttered? Can anything be done to help this battered economy recover from what the executive branch of government’s colossal mismanagement of this historic moment has cost us?

When we came through Ventura for a night, we got an amazing tutorial from Stu on what nomadism means today. Stepping away from stress and exhaustion of a professional life in LA, he has settled on not settling. His pooches and guitar are onboard with this. Stu’s passion is meeting new people and new places. He took time to teach us how to hook up Daisy’s sewer house and get backed into a tight spot right next to his vintage #Airstream. #sabatigo #liveriveted

With Covid locking down the global travel that’s heart of The Catalyst and Sabatigo, the Globalizedu family has gone on our own quest to reimagine our lives as learners, teachers, travelers and parents. On the trail, we are meeting amazing people, including Vic and Cindy in Anaheim, Cali. Vic is a retired LA detective and Cindy made her career as a journalist. We spent a day with them talking about their lives and careers and sharing their amazing sanctuary of a garden. They generously bought our kids and us In and Out Burgers for lunch (Our 7 year old’s dream meal) and were both near tears as they bid adieu to their little old Airstream, Daisy. We promised to use Daisy for the same rich adventures and personal rejuvenation that was their story with her. #thecatalyst #sabatigo #liveriveted #daisyrollson
