We discover the coolest things in the homes we renovate and restore. Does anyone know what this is?
Also known as a butler's call or ring, a servant floor button was situated in the middle of the floor of the formal dining room. It was used to summon the butler by stepping on it.

Old school adjustable shelves! We will be repeating this detail on some new cabinetry in this home.

Typically found right inside the front door, grand historic homes will have ringer buttons for the butler to let the owners know when they have a visitor.

Check out this beauty from one of our projects! An actual coal burning fireplace that still functions.

Builders and Architects were so thoughtful and clever in the late 1800’s. This tiny door located in the baseboard was used as a trash chute for sweeping floors. You would typically see one of these on each floor of the home and then in the basement they would have a trashcan for it to empty into. @ Saint Paul, Minnesota

The start of something new… Bathroom remodel on a home built in 1922. @ Saint Paul, Minnesota

Details….Details….Details…. Just a few of the cool little details on a kitchen and powder room remodel we just wrapped up.

Start your remodel or renovation off on the right foot! Protecting areas that are not part of the remodel or renovation will ensure less work at the end of the project! This is standard protocol on all of Purcell’s projects.

We are extremely fortunate and honored to be called upon to work on some of the Twin Cities most historically significant properties. One of the homes that we are currently working on was designed by one of the most prolific architects in Minnesota’s history, Clarence Johnston. Just a few of his most notable buildings include: Summit Terrace, Glensheen Mansion, Minnesota State Prison, Walter Library, Northrop Auditorium. We love homes with a history! @ Minnesota

Exciting new Purcell project in collaboration with Ron Brenner of Ron Brenner Architects! Stay tuned….

Treasure hunt! A Routine trip to source Architectural salvage for a current project. Purcell Fact – Did you know that we go to great lengths to ensure every historic detail is originally sourced when absolutely necessary?
