February is the month of love and it is important for us to know what healthy love is and isn't! Here are just a few signs your relationship might be unhealthy.

Art is a part of many survivors healing journeys and we need YOUR help to assist them! Agencies from around the Tri-City area are coming together to give survivors the space to create artwork and your donation of the following art supplies will help us ensure that survivors don't have to pay while they explore healing through art!

The first community-based location site where victims may come to receive medical forensic care after an assault is now open! Our SANE room, built in partnership with Michigan Forensic Examiners and sponsored by Women's ObGyn PC / Saginaw Valley Medical Research Group, will provide those in our community a safe space alternative to going to an Emergency Department. The moment when someone decides to get a forensic exam after an assault is scary and we hope that by offering victims and survivors alternatives to Emergency Departments we can provide them with the greater, personalized care they need!

Intimate partner violence: Early signs to look out for | CNN 12/18/2023

When discussing unhealthy or abusive relationships, we often talk about jealousy or trying to go through your phone as the earliest warning signs, but this study does an excellent job of listing other behaviors we might see as harmless when in reality, they may be warning signs!

Intimate partner violence: Early signs to look out for | CNN A new study has identified 16 early warning signs that could predict a partner becoming abusive later.

One great group served at two of our agency's location. One group of SISD Staff members graced the Underground Railroad Resale Store staff with their presence and the second half of the group graced the Safety Center staff with their time and talents. The smiles say it all. If your group or civic group is looking to serve, visit the agency's website to learn how you can grace us with your presence. ;

Clients at the Center were blessed with a wonderful dinner, cooked onsite, by this beautiful group of ladies. Each is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho. Ham, mac and cheese, candied carrots, and ambrosia salad were prepared and served. The smiles on the client's faces matched the smiles on the volunteer's faces. If your church or civic group would like to learn how you can be a blessing to those we serve, visit our website and click on How To Help.

For men, being open with their closest friends can be difficult or be seen as "being weak" or "soft". But, it's that openness that helps us develop deep and meaningful friendships. Being open can be difficult, but the relationships that come from it are well worth it!

Our shelter staff came together to show support for the victims and survivors we serve everyday! We hope you will take the time this month to learn more about how you can support victims and survivors in our community!

These two great groups of individuals took a few hours this weekend to serve. On Friday evening, a few ladies from the Nations Church prepared a yummy taco dinner for shelter guests and on Sunday afternoon, a few students from the SVSU Law Club sanded spackled spots and painted a bedroom in an agency owned home. Thank you for investing in your community. ❤️

We would like to thank the County of Saginaw Board of Commissioners for yesterday proclaiming October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. With the support of leaders in our county we can show those who have experienced abuse that they are not alone and that there are those who will support them!

In honor of today being Friday the 13th, we figured Jason might help us put into perspective those who are impacted by physical violence in their relationships. Jason, over the span of 12 films, has caused quite a bit of physical violence, but even he cannot come close to the amount of victims of domestic violence there are in just one day!

Yesterday we received a wonderful donation from our friends over at Financial Plus Credit Union as part of the CU Kind Day, their initiative to give back to the communities they serve! Thanks so much Financial Plus Credit Union for supporting our work and the survivors in our community!

Haven't got your bid yet? No worries! There is still a few hours left to get your final bids in before the silent auction closes at 7:30pm tonight!

2023 Empowerment Dinner & Celebration Honoring Mari McKenzie

When survivors of color often experience less access to services and report having poorer experiences with those services, we have to ask ourselves why that is? We cannot ignore that a victim's racial identity plays a role in not only an increased risk of victimization but also an increased chance of not receiving services. Until we address these disparities based on race in our communities, we are leaving victims and survivors behind!
