The Rehmann Foundation was founded in 2021, however the seeds had been planted in 1941 at the inception of our firm. Rehmann started as a small firm in the community of Sagniaw, MI and even in those early days we valued being a part of the community we live and work in.
Fast forward eighty-two years and eighteen office locations later and we still cherish that same value. All those years of a putting people first mindset laid the groundwork for what eventually became the Rehmann Foundation.
Continue to follow along on our pages as we share the journey of the Rehmann Foundation!
Holly Shier currently serves as Rehmann's Chief Marketing Officer. She is passionate about giving her time to organizations that support women, children, and animals. The organizations that the Rehmann Foundation supports are already established and making an impact in their communities. Holly hopes her involvement in the Rehmann Foundation helps to accelerate that impact and create more momentum to solve systemic issues.
It's time to highlight two more of our inaugural grant recipients! This week we are spotlighting Crossroads of Michigan, Bridging Communities, and The Henry Ford Learning Institute and Affiliate.
For more than 50 years, Crossroads of Michigan (Crossroads) has been a safety net for tens of thousands of at-risk individuals and families in Detroit and beyond. Crossroadsâ mission aligns closely with the Rehmann Foundationâs pillar of community. The grant funding provided by the Rehmann Foundation will support Crossroadâs Childrenâs Summer Lunch Program during the summer of 2023.
For over 42 years, Bridging Communities (BCI) has served older adult homeowners with the intent to support neighborhood stabilization efforts in Southwest Detroit so they can continue living in the community of their choice. With the funding provided by the Rehmann Foundation, they will be able to provide seniors with much needed interior home repairs as currently limited funding is available.
Founded by The Henry Ford and Ford Motor Company Fund in 2003, the Henry Ford Learning Institute is rooted in creating schools and transforming the education system. Because learning is a lifelong practice, they grew to serve out-of-school learning, design thinking for educators, and college-based learning and leading. The Rehmann Foundation has provided funding to assist with their project Latina Leaders x Design. This is a new initiative (2022) that supports and connects young Latina women (ages 15-21) with transformational opportunities to address fundamental problems that face the Latinx community.
We look forward to seeing both organizations continue to impact their communities in 2023 and beyond!
Becky Guenther joined Rehmann in 2011 and serves as the Director of Total Rewards. She has a true passion for causes that support women, children, and mental health, particularly in underfunded areas and for children with special needs. Becky is excited to be involved with the Rehmann Foundation in the early years and looks forward watching the foundation gain momentum and do great things for the communities in which we live and work!
It's time to highlight two more of our inaugural grant recipients! This week we are spotlighting Growth Works and Grand Rapids Nehemiah Project.
Growth Works Inc has a long, rich history of providing youth and family support and addiction counseling in Wayne County, Michigan. The agency was founded in 1971 as a drop-in youth center to provide a place for local youth to be active in a safe environment. For over 50 years, Growth Works has provided clinical mental health care and case management services to adults and adolescents throughout southeast Michigan communities. In alignment with the foundationâs pillar of community, the funds will help to support the agency to provide life-saving interventions to a broader base of clients, while also ensuring the sustainability of these critical services for the community.
The Grand Rapids Nehemiah Project's (GRNP) mission is to join in the work of rebuilding and restoring the city with a vision to see all people flourish. It was founded in 2017 as a nonprofit, although the work of GRNP has been going on for over a decade. GRNP is movement driven, where people join in mutual relationships, establish an inclusive view of community, and engage with accountability to each other. In alignment with the foundationâs pillars of education, community, and economic development, the Grand Rapids Nehemiah Project, under the umbrella of the Grand Rapids Center for Community Transformation, will use Rehmann Foundation grant funds to provide employment opportunities and vocational training and support to individuals in the community who are low-income and/or underemployed to increase their skills and provide personal development, leading to increased economic mobility and thriving communities.
We look forward to seeing both organizations continue to impact their communities in 2023 and beyond!
Today marks the start of Women's History Month in the United States! Did you know that Women's History Month started in 1987? After being petitioned by the National Womenâs History Project, Congress designated March as Womenâs History Month.
This month we encourage you to celebrate the contributions women have made in the United States and recognize the specific achievements women have made throughout American history in a variety of fields.
Michelle Hodges, CPA has been with Rehmann since 2005, and currently serves as a principal. Having three young daughters inspired Michelle to get involed with the Rehmann Foundation and give back. She has worked with not-for-profits from an accounting and advisory standpoint throughout her career and is looking forward to brining her expertise to the Rehmann Foundation.
It's time to highlight two more of our inaugural grant recipients! This week we are spotlighting United Against Poverty and Living and Learning Enrichment Center(LLEC).
United Against Poverty seeks to inspire and empower people living in poverty to lift themselves and their families to economic self-sufficiency. Its dedicated staff serves those in poverty by providing crisis care, case management, transformative education, food and household subsidy, employment training and placement, personal empowerment training, and active referrals to other collaborative social service providers. United Against Poverty will use the grant to support its workforce development program, the Success Training Employment Program (STEP). STEP is a three-phase adult workforce training program designed to help individuals overcome barriers to employment.
Living and Learning Enrichment Center (LLEC) was founded in 2015 by a mother who was grappling with the difficult realities of her sonâs autism diagnosis. Founder, and Executive Director, Rachelle Vartanian knew from her personal experiences as a special education teacher, that most resources and opportunities completely disappear for individuals with disabilities as soon as they turn 26 in the state of Michigan. After starting as a free weekly social gathering of individuals with autism at the local public library that grew fast and furiously, Rachelle decided to launch LLEC. Funds granted by the Rehmann Foundation will support the LLECâs inclusive vocational education and training programs, which work to build workforce readiness and help drive greater equitable access to employment for individuals with disabilities in Southeastern Michigan. The LLECâs work aligns well with all three of the Rehman Foundationâs pillars, as well as its larger mission and vision.
We look forward to seeing both organizations continue to impact their communities in 2023 and beyond!
