Congratulations to Edgardo Salcedo, who is the surgical director of the UC Davis Center for Simulation and Education Enhancemet!

He is also a professor of surgery in the division of Trauma, Acute Care and Surgical Critical Care and serves as the interim vice chair of Education for the Department of Surgery. He is the program director for the General Surgery Residency Program and the Surgical Education Fellowship.

We're very proud to announce that Dr. Edgardo Salcedo and Dr. Diana Farmer are two two of the 85 individuals recently inducted into the 4th cohort of the esteemed American College of Surgeons (ACS) Academy of Master Surgeon Educators.

This announcement recognizes surgeon educators who have devoted their careers to surgical education.

Dr. Edgardo Salcedo is a Professor of Surgery in the division of Trauma, Acute Care & Surgical Critical Care and serves as the Interim Vice Chair of Education for the Department of Surgery. Dr. Salcedo is the Program Director for the General Surgery Residency Program and the Surgical Education Fellowship. He is also the Surgical Director of the UC Davis Center for Simulation and Education Enhancement, an ACS Accredited Education Institute.

Dr. Diana Farmer is a Distinguished Professor and serves as the Chair of the Department of Surgery and Surgeon-in-Chief, UC Davis Children’s Hospital. She also is a Founder and Co-Director, of the Department of Surgery Center for Surgical Bioengineering.

The American College of Surgeons is a scientific and educational organization of surgeons founded in 1913 to raise the standards of surgical practice and improve the quality of care for surgical patients. As the largest organization of Surgeons in the world, the College is dedicated to the ethical and competent practice of surgery. Its achievements have significantly influenced the course of scientific surgery in America and have established it as an important advocate for all surgical patients.

Our team developed a simple, cost-effective model for practicing how to suture traumatic finger injuries — with a hot dog on a skewer covered in synthetic skin! The skewer mimics the bone and the hot dog mimics the muscle of a finger. Perfect for our emergency medicine faculty and residents to practice on!
