How the current fall in fuel is affecting us now
Since March the Russian invasion of Ukraine sent a shock through the oil and distillate markets causing a month-long ascent of record-breaking highs, until recently.
Diesel has dropped in price every week since June 20th through a couple of factors such as declines in demand and falling oil prices according to EIA. Diesel is still $1.63 above the level a year ago, but gas is roughly $1 under the level a year ago.
Demand remains the influencer in the market as well. According to Bloomberg reports, U.S drivers are using less gasoline, solely because high prices have withered off demand this summer. On the other hand, some outlets are reporting that diesel supplies may become more constrained and cause prices to rise as we have seen in June.

A lot of men and a few women have considered becoming truck drivers, but are they ready to become one? Here are 5 things to consider before becoming a truck driver:
1. Sacrificing time to invest into your career. As of today, in California, a Class A license requires the driver to go through a trucking school in order to receive their license. After that, a driver typically needs 2 years to build a credible reputation.
2. Sacrificing time with family. Typically, a driver is either local or on the road, meaning he can be home every other day or every 2 weeks. Sometimes this can cause problems in a household, so it's important to come to terms before making any decisions.
3. Drivers can sometimes feel lonely. It's hard to not feel lonely when a driver is in their truck for weeks at a time with minimal contact with people. It's important to stay occupied and focused for the driver, in this way, they can avoid loneliness and stay productive doing so.
4. A trucker's hygiene is harder to maintain. Sometimes those bathrooms and public showers are not that clean, and it's easier to just avoid taking a shower. Many truckers are poorly dressed, unshaven, and have messy hair.
5. Trucking can be challenging. Drivers sometimes forget that their truck and trailer can weigh up to 80,000 pounds! Carelessness can cause someone's life. Safety is one of the biggest priorities. Every pre-trip, precaution, maintenance, etc. is absolutely necessary.

HAPPY INDAPANDANCE DAY! 🥳🗽🇺🇸

Transportation teams prefer drop for its flexibility. Carriers benefit because it helps improve productivity. The Environmental Protection Agency says drops help reduce carbon emissions by eliminating hours of tractor idle time. Can all freight one day be drop-and-hook?
Pros: You don’t have to worry about spending time dealing with loading or unloading.
No-touch freight… everyone loves no-touch freight
Fast deliveries are also prominent.
Drop and hook make scheduling easier for drivers, carriers, and brokers.
Cons:
You need to route your shipments as efficiently as possible.
The trailer you need to pick up might not be sitting at the dock ready to go.
It might be behind other trailers or even stored offsite.
Drop and hooks typically don't need to be scheduled as often.
You don’t really know the condition of the trailer you are hauling.

VSP Transportation is wishing all our fathers a Happy Father's Day! Every father is a true superhero to their children. Thank you for being the heroes in our families. Don't forget to wish your father a Happy Father's Day

Fuel prices have only been going up. The importance of fuel efficiency is increasing. VSP Transportation has compiled a list of ways for drivers to save fuel and money.
• DON’T OVERFILL YOUR TANK
When fuel is heated, it can begin to expand. The expanded fuel can cause the tank to overflow and waste fuel.
• CHECK VEHICLE ALIGNMENT
A tire even ¼ degree from perfectly straight will try to travel 10-15 feet sideways every mile.
• USE CRUISE CONTROL
When you are able to, use cruise control. Cruise control can limit unnecessary acceleration and deceleration and can actually save you up to 6% in fuel consumption on the road.
• KEEP LOAD HEIGHT LOW
The more evenly distributed the load is in the trailer, the less effort the truck will need to get moving. It’s good practice to keep the load as low and as level as possible.
• STAY IN HIGHER GEAR
Driving in the highest gear possible is a good way to help maximize fuel efficiency. Traveling at faster rates in low gears can consume 45% more fuel than is needed.
• MONITOR TIRE PRESSURE
Underinflated tires decrease your fuel economy. For every 1 PSI drop in pressure, your fuel mileage can be reduced by 0.3%.
• MINIMIZE CRUISE SPEED
This one may seem obvious, but going faster means you are going to burn more fuel. Every 1 MPH increase in speed results in a .14 MPG decrease in fuel economy.
• MANAGE CRUISE RPM
Managing the speed of your engine is also important in maximizing your fuel efficiency. Find the “sweet spot”, which is the most efficient RPM to run your engine. 1250 - 1350 RPM tends to be a good “sweet spot”.

Happy Flag Day!
O say, does that star spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

The Unwritten Rules of Truckstops
As you pull into a truck stop, there are unwritten rules that help keep every truck driver happy, efficient, and ready to keep going.
1. Don't impede traffic! After you are done fueling, pull forward to the "pull up" lane (just like the trucks in the picture are doing) and then go do your business (grab snacks from the gas station, restroom, etc.) This allows the person behind to begin fueling and not have to wait on you and keeps everything flowing.
2. Don't take up multiple parking spaces and don't park too close to other truckers! Parking is already hard to find on busy nights so be courteous. Parking too close to someone is inconsiderate of the trucker's privacy.
3. Throw your trash away! A lot of truckers tend to leave their trash bags in the parking lot before they leave. That's disrespectful and nobody wants to drive over your trash and it doesn't help that the workers aren't getting paid to pick up your trash. Truckstops usually have bins in the parking lots to avoid this kind of behavior.

VSP Transportation wishes every women a Happy International Women's Day! You are all so beautifully and wonderfully made!

Gas prices in the US have been rising in every state. What affects gas prices? There are 2 main catalysts that the price.
1. Price of crude oil. The prices have already been increasing with momentum. Over 7.5% in just the last year, a record 40-year high.
2. Global demand. With the increase of demand, prices for transportation of goods and even everyday services are higher because trucks, planes, ships, all use some form of gas.

Today, we wanted to honor Presidents' Day. It is also officially called Washington's Birthday since the late 1870s. Washington never had any biological children, yet he was a father figure to many.
Whether you are on the road driving your truck or you have a day off with your family, we wanted to wish you a happy President's Day.

Just finished trucking school? Here are a few tips to build a successful trucking career.
1. Year One Goal: No Accidents. In the first year focus on safety. Backing up is difficult, avoid those accidents GOAL: Go Out And Look
2. Don't job hop. Your time in service matters greatly in trucking. Doing your homework prior to jumping ship is crucial if your goal is working for a top tier carrier at some point.
3. Relationship. Even with a job shortage, your job isn't always guaranteed. There isn't a shortage of drivers, there is a shortage of good drivers. Establishing that good reputation will reap good rewards.

What should a trucker expect when driving in the winter? Here are 5 ways a driver can prepare for winter:
1. Take it slow and smooth. Gradually brake and accelerate.
2. Black ice. A thin transparent layer of ice forms on shady areas or bridges.
3. Check the weather. By checking the weather forecast a driver can avoid potential closed roads or other hazards.
4. Inspect your truck. It's very important that your truck doesn't fail on the driver during harsh weather conditions. Plus it makes the trip smoother.
5. Pack plenty of supplies. Tire chains, clothes, blankets, flashlight, etc.

Common Dangers Truckers Face every day:
Stress - Truck drivers have to look out for busy traffic, encountering delays that make it difficult for deadlines, being away from home, poor sleep
Parking - Parking is difficult as is, but in higher populated areas it's almost impossible. Not to mention, finding a safe place where they can sleep peacefully.
Road hazards - Road conditions aren't always safe and being alert and taking the necessary precautions can save lives. Careless drivers are fairly common and they don't consider all the weight the truck is hauling.
