There was a time when my daughter and I would make throw pillows for her room together all the time. Then as she got older and life got busier those little traditions just quietly slipped away.

So when she asked if we could make a new set together, it meant way more than just fabric and thread.

It meant an afternoon for the two of us, picking out bright fabrics, giggling over the cutting mat, actually making something with our hands instead of staring at our screens.

She selected each shape herself: a parallelogram, an elongated hexagon and a triangle. Vivid colors, a touch of pattern and a lot of personality. A few hours later she had a whole new set of pillows for her room.

The pillows turned out beautiful but the real treasure was not what we made.

It was reclaiming a little piece of our time together. ❤️

I was so sure I was about to ruin a perfectly good Dollar Tree canvas... 😂

Sure, it was only $1.25 so the stakes weren't exactly high. But I had never tried a reverse canvas project before and I was convinced it would end up in the trash.

Then I flipped the frame, painted it black, and pressed on my vinyl design with my mini heat press...

I literally gasped. 😍😍

It looked like something I'd happily buy at Hobby Lobby!

My daughter Emily saw it and immediately asked if we could make one for her dorm room. Since then, we've been designing signs together and honestly, they've become our favorite budget DIY.

We grab canvases from Dollar Tree and use HTVRONT vinyl because it presses so cleanly. And suddenly a plain dorm room starts looking cozy and intentional without spending a fortune.

The best part? You don't have to be an artistic.

✨ DIY Fabric Bow Tutorial ✨

Looking for a quick and budget-friendly craft? Here's a simple fabric bow you can make in just a few minutes!

Here's the quick version ↓

🧵 STEP 1: Grab cotton fabric (it tears the cleanest!). Trim about 1 inch from the edge, then tear the fabric all the way down the 18 inches. Those frayed edges are what give the bow its rustic charm!

📏 STEP 2: Lay each strip flat and fold it at the 2/3 mark. One side should be approximately 12 inches of fabric and the other side should be approximately 8 inches.

🎀 STEP 3: Layer your strips, alternating the tail direction—first strip with the tails on the right, the next with the tails on the left, and continue alternating. If you're using multiple fabrics, switch patterns every couple of layers for extra dimension.

🤍 STEP 4: Take another 18-inch fabric strip, wrap it tightly around the center of your stacked strips and secure it with a double knot on the back.

🌿 STEP 5: Fluff and arrange the layers, and that's it! Your rustic fabric bow is ready.

🏺 Bonus Jar Project:
Use a Dollar Tree taper candle holder and a glass jar. Apply a thin line of E6000 glue to the top of the candle holder, attach it to the bottom of the jar, flip it upside down, and let gravity help while the glue cures. Once it's dry, tie your handmade bow around the jar so you can swap it out seasonally whenever you like!

I avoided painting rocks for YEARS because I thought it was “too artsy” for me. 😅

I'm the girl who probably should have failed eighth grade art. The one who still doodles stick figures when her kids ask for pictures.

But then I signed up for the Craft Lightning Challenge (because sometimes we all need a little push to try something new) and y’all…

✨ I’m SO in love with how these turned out! ✨

The funny thing is...

I literally purchased rocks from Home Depot 😂 (My grandfather, who always found rocks for free, is probably shaking his head.)

I picked up some Americana acrylic paints I already had and found the best little hack. Those tiny Dollar Tree glass candle holders make the perfect rock stands while you paint. No more fingerprints in wet paint!

Another trick that made a huge difference? Painting the black outlines first, then work outwards from the center. Somehow it made even my imperfect lines look intentional.

Each rock took about 15 minutes and honestly I went into this project hoping I would come out with one decent looking rock.

Instead...I loved them all.

Now they are scattered throughout my garden and they bring a smile to my face every time I see them. ❤️

Years ago I bought this little wooden crate at a garage sale. It’s one of those crates that held CD’s back in the days when we all had giant music collections in our cars. It sat in my craft room for a long time until I finally decided to give it a makeover.

With a little chalk paint, some hot glue, twine and two jars it became one of my favorite pieces of kitchen counter decor. 🏡✨

It's a good reminder that the "junk" pile at a garage sale is often where the real treasures are hiding. Sometimes it just takes a little creativity to give something old a whole new purpose.

🧼 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻...

I used to buy the 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲 matching bathroom set every time I redecorated.

Shower curtain. Trash can. Soap dispenser. Toothbrush holder. The whole thing. (Even though my Sonicare never actually fit the toothbrush holder. 😂)

Then, without fail, the soap dispenser would break.

Because water + slippery countertops = one more pretty thing headed for the trash.

And of course, you can never find a replacement. That collection is always discontinued by the time you need one, so I'd end up buying an entirely new set... again.

A few years ago, I finally stopped doing that.

Now I use durable plastic soap dispensers that 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 like glass and customize them with vinyl labels. One says 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗢𝗔𝗣 for the bathroom, the other 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗦𝗢𝗔𝗣 for the kitchen.

They match my bronze hardware, don't shatter when they get knocked over, and I haven't had to replace them every season.

The funniest part? The longest step was choosing the fonts. 😆

From cutting the vinyl to finished took about 𝟱 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀. If I can make these (remember... I still say I should've failed art! 😂), you absolutely can too.

Is the counter in your bathroom silently judging you? So did mine.

I kept buying cute storage containers but nothing looked quite right. Too plasticy. Too cold. Too … not me. Then I thought, I can make exactly what I want with mini mason jars, some chalk paint and cabinet k***s from the hardware store.

The result? Bathroom organizers that look like they came from a boutique home store but I spent under $20 for all three. It has a chalky finish which gives a soft vintage look. Cabinet k***s turn plain lids into something special. And the jute bows and fabric trim? Pure farmhouse cozy.
