Yesterday, we had the opportunity to meet with Shirley Temple, Program Manager for International Business, and Jacqueline Walker, Senior International Business Representative, at the Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office, Office of Governor Greg Abbott, to present the Picasso Initiative we are developing in Round Rock, Texas.
We shared our vision for creating a long-term platform that connects art, STEAM education, international collaboration, cultural tourism, and economic development — building new bridges between Texas and Málaga, Spain, the birthplace of Pablo Picasso.
The conversation was especially relevant as our initiative aligns closely with the vision outlined in Texas’ “Bigger. Better. Texas.” Economic Development Strategic Plan, where Hospitality, Tourism & Culture is recognized as an important target sector for the continued growth and global competitiveness of Texas.
Our goal in Round Rock goes far beyond bringing an exhibition to the community. We are building an ecosystem that can connect:
🇺🇸 Texas and Spain 🇪🇸
🎨 Art and Innovation
🎓 STEAM Education and Workforce Development
🌎 International Collaboration and Cultural Tourism
🏙️ Community Development and Economic Impact
Through the Picasso Initiative, thousands of students and educators are already becoming part of a larger vision in which creativity becomes a catalyst for innovation, tourism, education, and international engagement.
We sincerely appreciate Shirley and Jacqueline for their time, interest, and valuable conversation, and we look forward to continuing the dialogue about how this initiative can contribute to the economic development and tourism objectives of Texas.
Thank you as well to everyone who joined us and continues helping move this vision forward.
From classrooms to culture. From Round Rock to the world.

Nearly 29,000 students participate in visual arts across Round Rock ISD. Selected 4th-grade, middle school Art II, and high school Art I students will participate in this first-year challenge.
Students will:

📱 Design cars using Procreate and Bond 2024 iPads
🛠️ Transform digital concepts into physical model cars
🏎️ Build, test, and race their creations
🏆 Advance from campus competitions to a city-wide final with the potential for approximately 1,000 students
The Casa Natal Picasso STEAM Challenge puts creativity at the center of STEAM, connecting art with innovation, design, and engineering.
As Eduardo Galindo , working through STEM in Schools and the Texas European Foundation, I am proud to help develop the educational and STEAM component of this collaboration and create opportunities connecting students with art, technology, engineering, and real-world problem solving.
Special recognition to Francisco S.Guitard , leader of the Texas Art Hub project, whose vision and leadership have been instrumental in building the cultural bridge between Round Rock and Málaga and bringing together the institutions behind this initiative.
This fall, Round Rock will also welcome artwork from Spain at the City Arts Center, further strengthening this international cultural and educational collaboration.
Thank you to Round Rock ISD Fine Arts, Tim Lowke, the participating art teachers, the City of Round Rock Arts & Culture, Museo Casa Natal Picasso, and everyone making this initiative possible.
From classrooms to competitions. From ideas to impact.
