Legend is the black eye peas symbolize prosperity, the cabbage (or any leafy greens you have) symbolizes financial success, and the ham symbolizes moving forward (since pigs root forward when they forage). Bonus if you also add cornbread to this meal which represents gold.

It’s mild, not spicy like a jalapeño pepper, but has more flavor than a green pepper.
