Mark 14:7 (NLT): You will always have the poor among you, and you can help them whenever you want to. But you will not always have me.

Jesus said that we will always have the poor among us.

What He did not say, however, is that you, in particular, should be the poor one among us.

You may choose to be the poor one in the midst of the rich, but it is not God's will for you to be so.

His perfect will for you is revealed in 2 Corinthians 8:9 (ESV): “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.”

There are Christians who, due to wrong teaching or negative experiences, have chosen to fall on the wrong side of this equation. Some even attempt to disqualify God's will for believers to succeed and prosper, allowing their mindsets to place them among the poor instead of the prosperous.

Does this alter God's desire for your prosperity? Absolutely not. He has outlined principles in the scriptures for building wealth. Whether you become the helper of the needy and poor or the one in need of help depends on your adherence to these principles.

Ultimately, it is a matter of choice. I urge you, as a child of God, to choose wealth, for it is your inheritance in Him. Hallelujah!

Proverbs 22:6 (KJV): "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."

The Hebrew word for train up in our theme scripture is chanak, which, among other things, means to inaugurate. Inauguration encompasses many aspects, one of which, is critical, that is, naming.

In Jewish culture, naming is so important that a child’s name, particularly for Hebrew boys, is not announced until the eighth day. Additionally, the Hebrew number eight symbolizes new beginnings. Naming a child, therefore, is considered an act of defining their identity.

When we study the Bible, we find that almost every character lived out the meaning of their name: Nimrod’s name means rebellious, and the beginning of his kingdom was Babel (Genesis 10:8-12). Jacob’s name means trickster, and he stole his brother’s birthright (Genesis 27:36).

While some of our parents may not have known God and thus gave their children names whose meanings contradict God’s purposes, as Christians today, we are called to do better.

Most importantly, it is God who names our children. The Bible is filled with examples of God naming children, such as: Isaac (Genesis 17:19), Solomon (1 Chronicles 22:9), John (Luke 1:13) and Jesus (Matthew 1:21).

As believers, we must be intentional in seeking God’s guidance when naming our children. Names carry profound significance in shaping identity and destiny.

Proverbs 22:1 (KJV): A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

God is deeply interested in how you are named because your name is what you answer to spiritually.

If names were not important to God, He would not have changed Abraham's name (Genesis 17:5), Sarah's name (Genesis 17:15), Jacob's name (Genesis 32:28), or Simon Peter's name (John 1:42).

It is surprising how often a Christian can be asked about the meaning of their name, only to respond that they do not know.

How is it that you can know the meaning of so many words, yet be unaware of the meaning of your own name? When you hear a new word, you consult a dictionary to understand it, but the meaning of your name doesn’t seem to matter.

The seriousness of a name cannot be overstated. For instance, if you are named after a pagan god or spirit, every time your name is called, two spirits respond—yours and that of the entity your name represents.

I urge you to take the issue of names seriously. If you are a parent, pray about the names you give to your children. Be intentional, because God is intentional. He does not name carelessly or without purpose.

Job 32:7 (KJV): “I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.”

Days speak, and years teach wisdom.

One of the ways days speak is through the patterns of our lives. The question is, are you listening?

I urge you to carefully study your life. If you have been facing the same challenges year after year, it is time to understand the wisdom by which such cycles can be broken.

That person who has made your life difficult should not remain a constant prayer item year after year. It should not be you stuck in the same job, earning the same pay for the past ten years.

One way to change this narrative is revealed in Lamentations 3:21-23: “This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”

You must first cultivate a consciousness that every morning, there is fresh mercy and compassion made ready for you to receive.

Face each day with the expectation of God’s goodness. Receive each new day with the anticipation that things must improve in every area of your life. Set your mind this way.

Embrace an attitude of gratitude for the great things God is doing in your life, even if you do not yet see their manifestation.

This is wisdom. It is only a matter of time before you begin to experience change in the areas where you once felt stuck. Hallelujah!
