Ron Campbell literally animated our childhood. Beginning in 1958 in his native Australia with cartoons like Popeye, Beetle Bailey and Krazy Kat, Campbell’s career spanned the entire golden age of Saturday morning cartoons. Sadly, Campbell passed away in January 2021 at the age of 81 but he left behind dozens of paintings that he created during his retirement. These paintings were inspired by many of the beloved cartoons that he was involved with including the Saturday Morning Beatles cartoon series, Yellow Submarine, Scooby Doo, Smurfs, Rugrats, Winnie the Pooh, George of the Jungle, Jetsons, Flintstones and finishing his career with Ed, Edd n’Eddy.

Very sad news about one of our favorite artists. 😢

It is with a broken heart, swollen eyes, a painful gut and piercing headache that I am given the task of informing you all that my partner and husband of twenty years chose to end his life-long battle with chronic pain yesterday September 20th, 2021. I wish I could have reached out to you all personally but it’s been a difficult 24 hrs. I will reach out again when I have more information about service arrangements.

I’m at a loss for words at the moment so for now I am posting a letter that he left for his family and friends below that he asked I post to his page along with a photo taken of us at his last gallery exhibit in Las Vegas on July 31. BTW he would want you to know that I did not photoshop this pic it was taken by a kiosk that had some serious filters on it, we both got a big laugh when we saw the photo coming out of the printer.

Dear Family and Friends:

Those of you who know me well, know that over the past forty five years I have existed with severe nerve pain mostly attributed to my scoliosis. I held on as long as I could. Living with constant pain has caused me to have serious bouts of depression, which I can no longer tolerate.

Adding to the pain has been forty years of extreme anxiety perhaps related to the pain. Every day was a panic attack. I tried many medications to no affect. In order to control the pain I had resorted to opioid pain medications, which only made the situation worse. They did little to limit my agony.

The last straw was contracting diabetes brought on by thirty years of corticosteroids (another attempt to control the pain).

At this point I am completely wrung out, I’ve gone as far as I can go. The last year has been hell. My best friend Peter died a year ago, my dear brother in law Greg died as well. It went downhill from there.

I’m so sorry I have to leave this way, but there are limitations to what the human body can withstand.

I have had an amazing life…have traveled all over the world. I have made some pretty decent art. Rob took great care of me for twenty years. I’ve had a great life.

I’ve been planning this for a long time. I love each and every one of you and wish I could give each of you a hug goodbye. Perhaps we’ll see each other on the other side and I’ll hug you then.
