I painted this Wrigley Field mural a few years ago on the walls and ceiling of a conference room dry bar. The owner of the company had worked selling concessions in the stands as a young boy (he showed me the rows he worked). The most difficult thing to paint was the crowd!

This photo is from a few years ago, when our daughter Kate was in nursing school. She invited me to go with her to Tecate Mexico along with a medical missions team (Smiles of Tecate). I painted this mural in the waiting room, along with Maribel Moses (right). Kate painted with us when she wasn’t assisting the doctors. We finished it in a day and a half!

I had the privilege of leading a team of creative people at Northlands Church in Norcross, Georgia for a few years. This has to be one of our all-time favorites. We built this set for Vacation Bible School! The reel is a minute long, but worth watching (in my opinion). I also have to mention that we have many fond memories of Lynda McMorris’s talent and sweet nature. We miss you Lynda.

Attended a workshop this week... in heaven! Taught by amazing artist and teacher from Newnan, David Boyd.

Here are some recent paintings. Three in the studio, and one outdoors. I'm loving painting outside! We'll see if I continue to love it when summer hits Atlanta...

I participated in the Olmsted Invitational "Paint Quick" competition this morning. It's open to everyone. We had exactly two hours to complete a painting in the park, and then all the pieces (130 or so) were judged. No ribbons for me, but it felt good to take part in my first (in a very LONG time) competition. This is titled "Paradiso". 9 x 12 Oil on canvas panel.

This week I took the plunge and invested in oil paints. It's quite different from painting with acrylics, as you have a much longer time to manipulate the paint, and the colors remain true as they dry. Acrylics dry very quickly, and dry darker (which makes color mixing a challenge).
I was also concerned with using solvents in my bedroom studio, thinking it would be too smelly....but the low odor solvents are amazing. There is virtually no odor, except the wonderful mild smell of linseed oil, which comes from the paint itself.

Halfway through this batch, I decided to simplify, and limit time spent to 45 minutes or less per painting. The last three are the result. Success, I think...

I recently began doing small paintings every day......working on skills, trying new things, developing my "artistic voice". I'm striving to go beyond realistically reproducing an image, and look forward to seeing where the road leads...

Just finished a long overdue "Deadpool" painting for son Jack. Not typical subject matter for me! It's painted on 1/4" plywood.

I recently painted this weathered logo on the wall of a new "Tom+Chee" restaurant near the Mall of Georgia. Tom+Chee was featured on "Shark Tank", and the franchise has been doing quite well.

Northlands Church stage installation. It was a bear, as it required a lattice-type support system behind the center section. The components are 2 x 2 ceiling tiles. With Bruce Van Zyl and the creative team...Ross, Tyler, Jackson, Russell, Matt and Lindsay. Looking forward to doing many more amazing things in the future!

Did this loose sketch for a client this summer. The idea would be to keep the colors very neutral, and the painting style "sketchy". They chose to go a different direction, but I still think this would be very cool! Maybe I'll find someone who's interested some day...

We created a pirate ship for our church day camp this past July... for less than $150! Insulation foam panels, carpet tubes, an old bed sheet, paint, and a small clothes basket for the crow's nest. I reused some thin hardboard to make the outdoor entrance signs. The kids had to walk the "gang plank" to get on the ship. Of everything I do, it's the creative projects at church that have always been the most fun...
